Audigy sound card problems

okay, I know this may not be the correct place to ask this but I'm sure someone here can help me. While I'm still working on my carPC I've decided to build a HTPC with some parts I have laying around.

The sound card I'm using is an original Audigy, gamer I believe. I planned on hooking it into my HT receiver which has digital in. One port on the Audigy is for digial out or sub/center channel in analog mode. I got a 3.5mm to RCA adapter. This one actually had two RCA's but the plug was a mono plug (as the user guide mentions to use). I went into the Audigy Sound Mixer and set the speakers to digital out only. When I plugged this into my receiver I got nothing.

My next try was to go to Wal-Mart and get three 3.5mm to RCA stereo patch cords and run it into the 5.1 surround on the receiver. This worked fine. EXCEPT no bass. This is the same port used for digital output and sub/center. I have center, and if I switch the RCA's around I' have base but no center.

Could the sound card actually be damaged in that port? Or do I have something not connected right? Or not set right in the software?

The issue with the digital out is I THINK that model Audigy card. (first gen) was you had to use a Creative digital speaker setup as it was proprietary.

I've never setup a surround setup with that card so I can't help you on the rest. Sorry.
