WRX carputer project (working...)

Hey everyone,

I've not posted too much, but been following to boards for awhile (now as a registered member!). I started my project for my 2004 WRX a week ago, and started a blog to document it. It'll be mostly custom fabrication, as I'm just using a laptop as my computer. If you're interested, check it out at:

http://wrxmp3.blogspot.com/

I hope to have it done in a week or two.

Just a quick question... where the hell does a 21 year old engineering student get enough money for a 2004 Subaru WRX and have money to install a CarPC??

Has daddy possibly funded some of this?

What the hell is that supposed to mean?

I've actually done a few co-ops, which pay pretty well. And no, daddy didn't pay for any of this, it's all came out of my pocket.

Sounds like somebody is mad that they couldn't make it as an engineer.

Back on topic. I like the way your stuff is coming along. Instead of moving my clock down to the ashtray like you did, I plan to cut out the auto plug and put my DVD player there. My TS is mounted where the radio is and I plan to put the performance gauge pack up on top. I think I can live without a clock anyways.

Cool install, parents used to own an wrx but we got rid of it because we got a dog

we now own a Subaru Forister. i dont think my parent will be 2 pleased if i started hacking up to a carputer.

I should be getting a car soon so not long till i can install a carputer. i have most of the hardware. all i need is the screen.

Yeah, right now the install is going a bit slow... I just got back to school and am loaded up this semester with classes.

The console I'm making to replace the clock insert is ... interesting to say the least. I realized I need some sort of top cover also to block out the sun, so that's in the very early stages of fabrication. Hopefully I'll get some time to work on it this week, but it's looking good so far. Oh yeah, the glare is pretty bad, so I'll need to tint the back windows.

Yeah, someone on the NASIOC forums sells those premade from wholesale Sharp brand LCD screens... I didn't really want to get rid of my stock CD changer (although there are tons of complaints about it), so I just decided to cut into the clock console and mount the screen in there.

i hate the whole "daddy brought it" thing. so hes young and got a nice car. so? its not really any of your business how he got it or paid for it.
In fact I find it quite offensive when people say that kinda thing to me.

Whichever way he meant it just take it as a compliment and stay

You got a nice car and he doesnt its really is that simple

When I help a friend fix a car we get those stupid beer belly outside the pub making comments how we fix things. The way I see it...can you do better than getting a beer belly? Poeple like that are normally full of **** anyway.

Oh yeah we feel good

I think "abitcrazy" meant no harm anyway. If he did, he could have said something abit more nasty...but for what reason?

Peace guys

Go back couple years ago during the DOT C O M boom. A 19 years olds kids just out of HS was making more money than a college grad. A software QA was making more money than the developer (no senority there).
This is simply because of stupid so called C T O who knows NOTHING. Now you know why most/all of them were going down the drain.

BTW, buying/leasing a car in the US these day is MUCH easier than 10 years ago.
