Adding files to a harddrive which is "hibernating" not being there when it wakes up?

My putercar shutsdown to hibernation whenever i turn off my car. I then can take the harddrive out of my removable harddrive rack and bring it inside and copy files over from my computer.

However, once i put the harddrive back in my car and turn it on it comes out of hibernation and the files that i copied over aren't there.

So, i suppose this is because the file system isn't getting updated? Even after i restart the files aren't there.

I imagine though if i shutdown my computer before taking the harddrive rack out of my computer (so after i put new files on the harddrive it'd do a complete boot opposed to a wake up) then i wouldn't have this problem right?

I was wondering if someone could provide some insight to how the file system is maintained and why this happens.

yep - hibernate saves the complete system status to the hard disk. obviously, if something on the HD changes after it has hibernated, then the computer will not know it when it wakes
