Emulator Question

Has anyone discovered a way to use flags or parameters so when they launch an emulator (NESten for example) it loads a certain ROM?

I ask because I want Media car to list my games under Apps, and when you select the game it just launches. I hate going in an selecting the ROM to load after because it's hard to do on the touch screen. Any suggestions?

I don't know, someone sould build it into a front end. I tend to think there is quite a bit of emulation going on... isn't MAME open-source? I'm not well versed in emulators, sorry.

You know I was surprised when I looked at all of the front-ends and didn't see "Games" as a standard Button, but then again seems like people want "Practical" uses for their carputers....

I'm searching the net for options right now...

I'm not sure about the emulator you're using but... have you looked to see if there in a .INI file you can work with??

If there were, and it was possible, I would imagine you could do it that way.

OR

It might be possible to launch a particular game with a command line option... y'know...like... c:\program files\nesticle\nesticle.exe -dkong

just a suggestion

Yes this is exactly what I'm looking for, but I can't seem to get the syntax right. I also don't know if it's possible either. I am using NESten right now, but will change the EMU to one that does what I'm looking for. I guess more trial and error is in order.

Are you trying the syntax from WITHIN mediacar ? Because MediaCar will not launch a file with external paramenters. You need to use LMF.

Yes I've been trying to get this working outside of media car first. Still no go. I guess I'll just have to link Media car to the emulator and use the emulator menu to launch the rom for now. I won't be driving and playing video games obviously, so I'll let the passenger screw with it.

One of the irritating thing is that you can associtate .nes files with the emulator .exe but you can't launch anything but .exe files from Media Car. I'm guessing this is an embedding issue.... I made a shortcut called dkong.exe and linked it to the .nes file but that just generates and error.

Ultimately I want to have cover art be the button that launches the game. I could do this outside of Media Car, but that sort of ruins the whole fluidness of the carputer IMO.

I've been playing with RockNES and have the same issues. It looks like someone needs to rewrite an emulator to allow for external flags.

Come on Frodo, you won't do it. "Frodomulator" as an external app to take a break from your mainstream coding... I shall reaward you. I'll give you candy!

I have two thoughts on this one

A) Frodo has got plenty on his plate, let's please let the man alone and perhaps he can finally be happy with what he has of 1.09 and release it

and

2) Do we really want Frodo to develop something that could possibly cause guilt from the stupid people playing games while trying to drive?
I'd like to think that most of us on here would never even consider the idea, but for all the RogerWilco's in the world, who knows...

Well, personally, I would never play a game while driving, but I do know my chick would play Mario ALL day long in the car if she could.

Just my $.02

I'm pretty sure it wont get you extra chics, but I'd rather listen to 8-bit audio glory than the constant yapping.
