Gaming Carputer?

Has anyone built a carputer that can run some of the newer pc games? I am in the process of getting all my parts and got the comp built. So mine will be a gaming one or just a carputer with lots of extra speed/power, lol.

So Im curious about this. I see mostly the VIA rigs which are nice (heck I got one too, lol) but has anyone done a fast/gaming pc in their car? I just think it would be cool, lol. Image playing LAN games from your car on like your home wifi network or even better friend's home wifi network.

I would never use mine out in the car to play games but... I have a AMD XP 2600 with 512MB RAM and a GForce4 MX. That is enough to play just about everything except Doom3 which would run a little slow. I have my regular AC PSU that came with the case if I want to take my computer in somewhere to play games. Mine is easy to switch out with my Opus.

IMHO fraggin while driving is not the greatest of ideas, but it isn't hard to make a system suitable for gaming. There are some very capable low profile agp cards and pci vid cards out there. Alternatively, you could just use a laptop with a 9700mobile :P

My plan is to have a gaming-capable rig in my truck.
I'll have a 7" touchscreen in the dash for navigation, plus another VGA out to hook up a REAL monitor for gaming goodness.
It won't be a DOOM3 assault rig, admittedly, but it'll be capable of some UT200x or Counterstrike.

My original idea was to roll up to a LAN party, plug in and frag on. It is still the plan

Your plan is just like mine.

Ok well system specs are:
AMD Barton 2500+, 512MB PC3500, 128MB Geforce4MX, 250GB HD. Thats the basic stuff that matters. It will also be wifi equiped with a better antenna.

I may buy a mobile barton 2500 because they use 45W which is great cuz the current cpu uses something close to 100w-ish. I will have a 7" lilli touchscreen driving it, and in the back row I got a 15" lcd. I may end up powering the stuff with a 400W (~600W peak) converter.

You could easily game with that. Very similar specs to mine.

Ya, thats my 2nd rig. The other is almost exactly the same, same stuff and all. This system tho was much cheaper, cuz I got the CPU/Motherboard for $70 shipped from NY cuz they were used.

Normally my friends borrow it for LAN parties we go to, to game. But it was built for multimedia use so what better use than my carputer.

Oh and I wont be playing while a drive, rofl, Im not crazy. Even tho some of my friends think putting a comp in a car is.

Plus to get parking @ my school I gotta get there like an hour early cuz the darn zero per ppl take all the spots. We got 100 spots for 300 seniors that drive. So ya its a mess. Otherwise I gotta park on the steets and thats a short walk but uphill which gets tiresome after awhile.
