Voice?

Since I don't have a monitor right now, and I'm using my dads....When I get my XPC, its gonna be running a 8.4" Touchscreen. I'm not going to use this system as my carputer, its going to be in my apartment. Setup to a 5.1 Suround Sound, the TV and I'm going to make a nice elegant stand for it. But besides the touch screen, is there any program I can use so that like if I come home, and dont wanna go to the screen to press play or select next song or volume up and down or have it activate the dvd or tv....I can just say the command like "DVD>Play>Volume Up" and it will do as I say? Some kind of Voice Recognition software that I can program....?

before I get flammed, I did a and couldn't really find not one thing.

You could try the voice control for Routis/iGuidance. It can be configured to control other apps. Just a suggestion.

Wouldn't you'd have to walk over to the microphone anyway! You might as well just keep it simple and use a remote ;-)

Actualy, the onboard soundcard on the XPC has a DB enhancer for mic, so I was going to install like multiple mic's around my apartment, so it will hear me like a speaker phone.

I just thought about it, maybe my new Windows XP Media Center 2005 Edition has a Voice Recognition SDK in it...I hear the Microsoft one is quite good, along with Via Voice.

Anyone have any sugjestions as to the best programs for this?

Use a wireless keyboard and mouse. Find ones that use RF not infra red so you don't need to worry about line of sight.

Voice recog. is a lot cooler of course as long as you can find a very reliable one that will actually recognize voice and nothing else. I wouldn't be so cool if when you phone rings then your TV powers up.

Thats what I definatly want to stay away from, thats the reason for my thoughts and dreams....to stay away from keyboard and mouse...its not cool to walk around with a keyboard to turn on things in your house.

But it would be cool if your just hangin out watching tv at normal sound through the computer (Media center 2005) and you walk into a dark kitchen and say "Kitchen Light" and the light turns on, and you say it again and it turns the light off.....that would be too ******* cool

A little more info, this is what I want:

I want to walk into my house and throw my keys down on the little table stand next to my door/clothset under the hiden LED light bulb that keeps the table lit up enough to see my keys. And even if the touch screen is turned off that is like 6ft under my center channel speaker, I could say "Lights" and the living room lights will turn on so I can navigate my body through. And if my hallway is dark, I can say Hallway and the Hallway Light will light up.

Then I can get comfortable and say "On Screen" or "TV" and my overhead HDTV Projector will turn on and Windows Media Center 2005 will switch to TV. And I can say "Channel 50" or "UPN" and it selects the channel I speak of, then I can say "hallway" and "lights" and all the lights in my house will be turned off and I can relax and watch tv.

lol I just realized doing this, even with just a touchscreen and no voice, is gonna take some mad wireing. I need one of those computer boards that I can wire up to all the electronics in my house...I'd mainly just do it for lights and TV.

Then seting up a voice recognition program like Via Voice for EVERYONE who lives in the house, like me and my gurl.....is gonna take like 2 weeks to get it perfectly acurate.

FWEW, alot of work....but I'm planning on having a new house built in the next year or so, so it shouldn't be that much work as long as I do it all along with the building the house.

You basically want to set up home automation. There are sites and even entire magazines devoted to that. Go read up on things like X10 and primary control centers, etc.

I called the company for the X10 setup....and they told me it wont work for what I want. Since I want to setup voice commands to start certain things off and on in my house, they dont even have a touch command so you can't turn things on or off with your keyboard (which you can setup for voice command per key)....they are timmed things. You can setup a macro so that at like 7:30 the lights will turn on to welcome you home, and will turn off a certain time later and other things can turn on and off like cofee machine.
