LED Fan

Has anyone EVER seen an LED fan that can have the LEDs turned off and leave the fan on? It's driving me ape-****. I don't want to buy a fan that uses both 12v & 5v and have to add my own switch into the molex plug if I dont have to.

I'm looking to light the interior of my case but be able to kill the lights and keep the cooling.

Am I going to end up making my own fan bus?

Prolly you will if you want the fan's leds to turn off. Perhaps a different fan (the led fans are rather noisy in comparison to a good fan) and a CCFL or that flexible light strip stuff if you can't spare the space. I guarantee you'll get better illumination and a quieter carputer.

line your box with plastic mirror will also help with illumination

Same as my problem....I'm just too lazy to do anything about it. I figure you could make a switch to decide between 12v and 5v and with 5v the fan's LEDs wouldn't have enough power to light after the resistor, but the fan could still move at a slower speed. You could also make the voltage completely adjustable.......or buy a fan controller from like newegg or something. I think I'll stick with my large piece of cardboard for when I really don't want my case window lighting up the room tho. :P

Most case fans (80mm and up) don't run at 5v. Some run but wont start. I won't lie, this is for my watercooled home rig. I'll end up making a fanbus. Center off toggles will give me this +12|off|+7 (you all know the 7v trick right?) 80mm fans run silent at 7v. I'm also entertaining the thought of making an LED strip. CCFL need inverters. Inverters are hard to hid inside a case. I'm anal about my case tidy ness. Today's project is to tidy up the cables under my desk....

That's still too messy!

You really need to take that case down to the platers and have it electropolished then gold plated. Then the computer will run much faster because the gold plating will make for a better high-frequency ground plane due to skin effect. OK; it won't, but how many people will know that?
