Thanks, that explains everything. ;-) Could you explain it, or are you going to leave me doubting you?

I remember something about a BIOS reflash with Linux, which could potentially be that fast, but it was a particular mobo, and I didn't think you ported Cobra to Linux yet (but I could be wrong).

You mean disk on a chip? Afaik still requires the POST to execute first, which takes time.

lol... what makes u guys think i am getting 1sec boot. No way in hell is that possible with our current technology. Anyway mine is around 35-45sec. I can get it to boot even faster if i do away with the nic card. Anyway why are u guys worried about boot. The thing u really need to be worried about is the PC working 100% all the time especially when you are about to demo it. What good is all that boot speed if box will not work correctly ?

Boot speed is nothing if it doesn't work correctly, but it's an extra minute of music when it does

i found a nice boot "tweak" that i do. since i only network once every week or two i dont need it to load EVERY time in the car. I just went into control panel->system and disabled the NIC. It must take at least 10 sec off boot time, EVERY time i boot. And when i want to network, i go into system and enable it. Im sure most of you know about this, but i hope this might be able to help somebody.

Hmmm, might have been the way you implied that you had a 1 second boot. Glad to see that I was right to doubt you on this one. :-)

Cool

Mine's about a minute, which is fine with me as I always warm up the engine for exactly one minute. I just leave the PC on all day after I get to work (always listen to the radio on the way). It could be shorter, but I have a network card installed, and really haven't optimized boot times that much. And the VNC server takes about 10 seconds to start, along with the Windows login, Access engine, etc.
