EDIT: Oh and BMW is owned by VW. Oddly enough.
Thanks The BMW I wanted (95' 740iL) is not a car for a 16 year old Plus it would have cost me $10000 w/o tax. Up to this day I have changed the water pump and the timing belt on my car, tunk shocks so I would have the only automatically opening trunk in school and because my original were dead, and I got myself a battery mount. That's it.
Old BMWs are NICE! The new ones got ****ed in the *** by Chris Bangle. Old BMWs are also pretty reliable, but if something breaks, be prepared to spend 1.5x what that part would cost from a Japanese car, and around 2x what it would cost from an American car. Sadly enough, my car has some GM shocks in the trunk so it would open automatically; one GM shock costs $20 while a lexus one costs $60
Also, NEVER get service done at a dealer. Find a mechanic and make friends with him. That's what I did. Instead of being charged $100 for dent removal after I ran into my friend's car, my mechanic charged me $50.

Right I floor the accelerator daily, I have almost no rubber left in the back, and I've got 4 different tire brands on all 4s. I also go 10 above the speed limit on a good day

Most people on Ebay expect blue book. For the best deal I would recommend determining the car you want and then going to a specific forums for that Make / Model I know my profile only says Durango R/T, but I have 2 1987 Jettas as well. The second I bought for $850 from a guy on www.vwvortex.com . It is near mint and he could have very easily gotten double that on the open market but since I was a Vortex member too, he let me get it for a steal because he knew I would take care of it.

Well, you could get 5 Toyota Cressidas within your budget. That car has the same engine as a MKIII Toyota Supra N/A. People also say that the Toyota Tercel has redefined their definition of a beater car.
Yeh, check enthusiast forums for a specific make of vehicle. I see lots of good deals on www.clublexus.com
Like this guys has his 95' SC400 for sale for $6500.
This guy is selling his modded 95' SC300 for $7000. You could probably get a grand from the wheels on that car.
This guy is selling his salvaged 92' LS400 for $5500.
This guy is selling his 90' LS400 for $3300!

Ebay: great for buying car parts and selling a car, not the best for buyer, unless you want something very very specific or rare.

Lots of people here drive VWs. Maybe its because I live in one of the gayest parts of Los Angeles (West Hollywood)

Are you trying to link VWs to gays now? Sheeeaaassshhh! I am used to the girl car comment (they are, after all, the smarter sex) but gays now? I don't have anything against gay people, but the VW bashing I will not accept!

No. What I meant is that in this area, most people like to own foreign cars. Gays like to own mostly German cars. The rich ones have Porsche Boxers, and the well-off ones own VW Passats. And we have two girls on the block who own the latest gen Silver VW GTIs.

well it is a necesity here on the east coast, especially in the winter time it is almost comical how many BMWs and Mercedes I pass on my way to work there is snow on the ground or it is icy outside.
*Edit*
I guess I should clarify that the rear wheel drive cars have spun out into a ditch or into a guard rail. Heck we had a tornado and it was raining hard and I saw a Mustang hanging halfway off a bridge backwards
