Cool. For now, I consider my car a beater. Its my daily driver, and is always dirty because I don't have a garage to store it in, and it gets condensation when I have to go to school and I won't clean it because I'm lazy and it will be back the next day.

Passat's are great. A friend of mine has one with over 380.000km. I should've got one of theese instead of the Megane...but the Renault was cheaper. I prefered a 6 speed diesel engine (average consumption is 6.2l/100km at a speed of 180km/h) instead of a gasoline 5 speed (at 180km/h takes about 10l/100km).

I know what you are talking abaout... I lived in hungary, had a 1987 Passat Combi with a 1.6L gas engine. Avaraged 7.8L/100km at 120 but 13-14 at 180. ) gas prices didn't allow me to go "whenever, wherever". I'd like to get a tdi over here about a 97, but thos cost well over 7-8 grands... too bad...

I don't know if BMW is owned by Germany, but if they would only ever own part of it.
A private German family are major shareholders in BMW from what I know

I've never been a big fan of those cars. Things change over the years, like the GTIs are getting fatter every succeeding generation. You will probably find that the passat will be much different that your old VW.

Yes, the GTi's just aren't what they used to be... I've recently seen a Top Gear episode, with the GTI. They weren't pleased with it either...
