You can't take cops' actions in GA seriously. C'mon - this is the state where gas is cheap, and a cop won't bust you doing 85 in a 65 unless they were outa jelly doughnuts at Krispy Kreme. Oh wait - that's in Atlanta...

Hmm...I wasn't talking about Georgia cops there, nor was I quoting Ga law...they would never be able to pass legislation like that in Ga...some of the "less fortunate" people could never afford to buy a handsfree kit or a headset...DON'T THEY DESERVE TO TALK ON THEIR PHONES, TOO? It's racism if they can't talk on their phones, you better believe it! Heck, those people can't even afford to get emissions inspections to save the environment - here in Macon I see cars driving around that have to be burning at least 3 quarts of oil a day...sheesh.

However, I have also had quite a different experience with the cops in GA than you have, obviously. Most of the cops that I know don't even eat doughnuts, nor will they let you get away with going 20 over the speed limit. If you ever see a cop let you get away with doing 20 over, you let me know where you are, so that I can drive that way, too! I also don't view gas as being very cheap right now...back when I got my first car, gas was only .55 to .65 cents a gallon. Gawd, Clinton was such a good president

the reason a computer is exempt for the search is because it is a digital storage device (cant contain Drugs, weapons, etc etc{well not the data anyway the physical enclosour maybe but not the data}). it has to do with the way the law was written and the need for a special warrent. Its been awhile though, i had a lawyer friend of mine look into this for me once because i was keeping my laptop in my car (at the time it had lots of pirated software and music and other "hacking" paraphinalia(sp?) tone gens and what not).

as to exactly the reason id have to look for the information again.

Hey this thread just reminded me of the Valentine 1 integration thread. If that ever got working, you could have it automatically switch to GPS when radar was detected. That would be sweet!

I watch movies in my car. Not while driving in LA or anywhere near other vehicles, but on my 5 hour drive to Mammoth along an almost always empty Hwy 395, you're damn right I got the Bourne Supremacy on. Of course I dont stare at the screen for prolonged times, and if there are cars or other things happening, I'll pay attention to the road.

Exactly. But this won't give you a full proof method. You can get ticketed by those bicicle cops. Also not all cops will pull you over because you're speeding.

Remind me to never drive anywhere near you. Please, for the love of
your fellow man, turn in your drivers license and take the bus.

LOL Frodo... I completely agree. There have been several times I thought I was alone on the road only to have a car appear seemingly out of nowhere. I would hate to think what would happen if I was watching The Bourne Supremacy at the wrong moment.

Just do like I do..

Put the monitor in a good place where they can't miss it and make sure the top is down so they can see whats on the screen without having to pull you over.

Don't worry Frodo, I won't be heading down south any time soon. gerry... you might be in trouble though.

but seriously... when i drive, i spend a lot of time looking at my mirrors and my dash, scanning everything. i'm probly only looking forward less than half the time anyways, so all a movie does is add one more thing to scan. its not like i stare at the screen. just a glance every now and then. and like i said, in the middle of hwy 14 and 395, you can see ahead of you about 30 miles, so i have a pretty good idea of whats coming my way.

in fact, browsing through your music collection, having to press buttons at exactly the right spot, i would say takes a lot more concentration and is a much bigger distraction that having a movie playing.

just my $.02 (i'll let you know when i get a ticket so you can celebrate )

I can't possibly imagine watching a movie while driving. Considering the way most people drive, I'm deathly afraid to look away long enough to check my blindspot!

I truly believe that driving laws and license issuance should be better done in the US. It seems that anyone with a heartbeat can get a license and not understand basic driving technique. The best part is, they go out and buy a huge SUV, then multitask like they were sitting on their couch. People who choose to drive large SUVs should be required to obtain a CDL. At the very least, they'll be taught that their vehicle is a TRUCK, and should be driven as such. I knew the bells of hell were ringing when I saw Porsche was releasing an SUV - Nothing like getting 5000lb hurtling through the air at 100mph.

*sigh*
I'm stepping off my pedestal before I fall and break my neck...

Well, I pimped out my Explorer last year. 5.6 inch LCD in the front (which i will be selling soon by the way) and a 8" roofmount (which will also be for sale soon.) I drove from MD to Charleston SC and watched movies, or had my passangers playing playstation the whole way down 95. When we switched drivers, I noticed my dumbass friend was driving my car and watching the screen for porlonged periods of time. But we didnt have any issues.

However....this is where the law inforcment comes in.

About 2 months ago, I flipped the exploder on the way to class. I wasnt watching tv....I was ran off the road. Anyway, with the blood pooring down my arm the cop said to me "You might wanna pull out your dvd screen in the front there and all your other audio equipment there, dont want that getting wet or stollen in the tow yard....." I was suprised they never asked if it was on at the time of the accident.
