Wifi connection detected window

Anyone have any idea how yo get WinXP conenction thing to stop popping up or at least fade away. I have a Wifi adapter conencted 24/7 and driving by places it will pop up wireless network available or disconnected or whatever. You have to click on the little x to close it gets quite anoying. Anyone know a quick little tip to make er go away while still having the wifi conenction icon in the tray. Was thinking maybe using something other than windows to manage wifi connection but don't know of any good software to do so
