An alarm is only as good as its installer. Plus I had a broken stock alarm. I do wish I knew someone who could install them here in SoCal. Al&Eds autosound, were we got our previous 2 alarms is soo ******* expensive

You really could have done it yourself. They are very easy. I was like you when I was your age. "An alarm install? That should be left to the pros" But now that I have done it, I assure you it is very simple.

I paid $500 out the door and installed with 2 door actuators. I think I got a pretty good deal. I'm in SoCal and the market here is pretty competitive. I have done a ton of business with the stereo shop that installed it and they do quality work. I walked in with $500 cash (all $20 bills) and set it on the counter, Told the sales guy what I wanted and told him this is all I can spend. Take it or leave it. Easy as pie.

WOW!!! I need to move out there. I can get the Viper 791 for $219 and those actuators cost like $5 a piece. I can install 2-3 of these a day and make $500-$750 profit. Work like 3 days a week and make almost $100,000 a year out of my garage.

I'd attempt an isntall on a simpler car. My car is just filled with electornics and the stock alarm. Would have loved to pay someone to install it, but couldn't find anyone.

A car is just a car and bypassing that factory alarm is just a matter of knowing which wire to tap into. That information can be found on the internet in many places. Like http://bulldogsecurity.com/New%20Wir...s300-94-95.htm I hate their alarms and remote starts but their database of car wiring diagrams is pretty accurate and free.

The stock ones went bad. I had them replaced so my alarm would lock the doors. The shop is called Stereo1. I'm happy with my alarm and quit frankly to protect my $1500 computer and $2000 stereo system, I would have spent more than $500 for a GOOD alarm system, But I didn't need to.

I was just at BBy tonight and the guy said "all cars require at least $20 in extra parts". Ha! I hate that place. Many friends of mine have had messed up stereo installs - Stereo Installs! The easiest things to install ever - plug and play!

Anyway, I'm looking for a starter with long range. I want to sit in my desk on the second floor of my office and turn on my car. I think the 1/4 mile will do it... Any suggestions for do-it yourself starters? DEI has quality, but I don't want to sit in the fast food joint next door for 4 hours while someone installs it! Any suggestions?

This is a DEI standalone remote start/keyless entry. http://soundmart.zoovy.com/product/5...A=froogle-562T These things are really easy to install.

once again ..

I posted this info under someone elses thread .... I dont remember what for.

My recommendation is the Avital Made by Directed

Link to 2 way unit

I have had this unit installed for almost a year now (jan) with no problems ...its killer
some of the features
  • Timed autostart - car will run for 12,24 or 60 mins on auto start
  • Internal Temp sensor = see the temp inside the car from the remote
  • 24 hr start = car will start on its own at the same time every 24 hours (i dont use it)
  • Cold temp start = if temp in the car reaches 0 F the car will start for 12 mins to raise the car temp then shut itself off (you can control weither or not the car uses this feature) ...its not THAT cold in PA
  • and my fav - VERY COOL LCD Key chain ...below is a pic of mine
and of course there are all the impact sensors ...LCD shows if the car has been hit (shock sensor) ...if a door is open ...if the hood/Trunk has been popped ...all on the LCD remote

install for less then $350 (providing you already have the actuators for the doors ..otherwise a lil more)

Very cool. That's what I want. But the remote - where is the "start" button? And does it have a trunk popper (aka - computer starter)?

Basically, my question is where to find the magic place that says the engine has started? I tried installing a starter on my old '91 Jeep and couldn't find the crankshaft sensor. Ended up wrapping a wire around a plug cable (which didn't work). I ended up selling the starter (and the car) - with about 80 tapped cables hanging under my dash.

Any advice for determining when a car is started? Specifically a cheaped-out Chrysler product?

the lock and unlock buttons on the face of the key chain pushed together will start the car ...yuo hear a lil jingle (or feel the vibrate) and the lil smoke bubbles come out the tail pipe of the car on the keychain and the time starts counting down to 0 ..at which point the car would shut off ..if you didnt get in it already ...

NOW what you CANT see ...is there are 3 more buttons down the side of the key chain ...panic/Function and AUX ....you could use an AUX button combo ..for trunk pop/Carupter stater

...I think I'll take some better pix ofthe keychain and post em

http://bulldogsecurity.com/New%20Wir...rokee99-01.htm Follow the directions. The tach wire is the one you are looking for. It will show AC current if you have the right one.

The one I linked to in post 23 is only $91. Spend the money and get a quality remote start or live in regret and end up replacing the cheap junk later.

Actually alarm is very easy to install. It just a mater of connecting wires. The hard part is finding which wire you need from a bunch of wires from your car. Once you figure out which wires in you need from your car, it's a peace of cake. I installed all the alarm in all my family cars (Toyota and Honda).
I learn how to install alarm/remote starter when the shop didn't want to do it for me because they just don't install remote starter on Standar/Manual transmission. I just F them and do it myself. I just put 2 switch, by the shifter to disable the remote starter if the shifter is in gear.

Anyway, like other has recommended go for DEI (Clifford, Viper, Python, BlackWidow, ... ) are all great. I have a Viper 300+ and the Valet add on starter (also from DEI) installed in 2 different cars. Originally in my 85 Supra, took it out when sold then install in the 89 Supra. They still work like brand new.
For DEI product can be purchase and doesn't have to be install by their "Certified/Professional" installer. You just doesn't have the warrantee. If their product is installed from thier authorized retailer/dealer, you have lifetime warrantee on the brain but not other parts (sensor/siren/keyfob...). Labor, usually you have to pay but if the installer nice enought, it free as it only take couple minutes to swap the brain.
