I'm probably seeing steeper prices because of where I live; the out-the-door quotes on new bikes were ridiculous, which was one of the factors why I went with a used bike.

85 kawasaki Ninja 600 - in pieces
85 Honda Rebel 250 - sold
A guy around here has a LCD on his tank connected to a rear view camera he uses instead of mirrors. Not a puter, but still cool

Just went to Atlanta on business to see some people I've been meeting with on daily conference calls for the past 3 months. Low and behold, one of the guys (who I'd never expect to have one) rides a custom chopper! We stood outside for a good half hour looking at the work of art. He got it from some company in Texas, but I swear it was made by Jessie or OCC. Looked a lot like the T-Rex Softail on OCC's site: http://www.orangecountychoppers.com/...y/bike7_tx.jpg
I've never been much of a fan of bikes, but that ride was a work of magic!
Now, I wonder where he'd but the bikeputer....

Yeah, there are some people out there with some wicked ideas who turn plain old bikes into incredible art.. I wonder what something like this costs, or if you just have to know the right people..

Martin Brothers? American iron horse? a custom chopper is a custom chopper, they all are works of art, but they all look fairly similar IMO, I dono, maybe it's just teh sudden influx of posers getting into choppers that turns me off of it.....but you cahn't really ride a chopper, and when I say ride, I mean ride.....they are pretty to look at but just about anyone who can work with metal can make a custom bike.....that's why there are so many of the customs out there...lol
oh, and I might start a flame war, but I don't recomend a sport bike as a first bike....spend a few grand on a true starter bike and learn to ride on somehting that won't be that expensive to drop and fix......not to mention insure.....then after about 4k miles sell it and get yourself a second bike, the bike that you want....
but then again, this is just me (and just about everyone else out there who will teach motorcycle safety courses, not to mention those who have been riding for a good bit of time....)
=]
and yes, IMO, the safety course should be 100% manditory!!!! not to mention a GOOD helmet, not a cheapy one....

A true start bike would be? Not that I'm completely opposed to trying it that way but it isn't like I've not ridden something similiar all my life. Athough I do realize that turning on a motorcycle and dirt bike is a little bit different however you can do that lean to turning that is common on a motorcycle on a dirt bike too
But regardless what would be a starter bike? I have to admit it be very tough to convince me to spend a few grand and then after a month or so spend another 6 or 7.

dirt bikes and street bikes are two completely different worlds....
I can't tell you how many guys (and yes, I say GUYS on this one since they all seem to act the same when it comes to dirt bikes and street bikes) have used the same excuse: "But I grew up riding dirt bikes!!!" only to find themselves traped under their first street bike in a parking lot after high siding on a 10 mph turn trying to learn how to ride the true sport bike they just got.....then they turn around and ***** about how much the body work costs to replace....all because they wanted a sport bike and were too 'big' to let their brain speak before their ego
common sense will tell you that a sport bike is NOT a good first bike, no matter what your age or what your percieved experience may be.
the thing about beginner bikes, you buy them used and unless you total it, you don't lose your *** on them....for instance, we paid $2k for my GS500, 6 months later sold it for $1800....AND I had gone down on it...cost me all of $50 to fix it....so I was out $250....if that had been on my current bike.....might have totaled the bike in the value of the damages....
a good first bike is a small displacement bike that's not very powerful....
an EXCELENT first bike is the Suzuki SV650....you can find them used for about 3-4k. New they are 6-7k (around here anyways). And you won't outgrow it ANY time soon. Every review I've ever read about the bike is that even people who race for a living find the bike to be fun, as well as those who are just learning to ride....

Oh, and the only thing a 'busa is good for is going in a straight line.....yeah it can do it fast, but a straight line is not what having a bike is all about now is it?
=]
again, these are just my thoughts on the subject

I did say there was a difference in the turning in my post something I am well aware of. You can however do that kind of sharp lean turning you do on a street bike on a dirt bike.
However as far as the bike goes I guess I had a beginners bike in mind. I was looking at the Yamaha YZF600R which is 599cc compared to the 645cc of the suzuki

I swear to god everyone with a duck has a million excuses as to why other bikes just aren't as good as thiers !!!
Why is this ?? I got a good riding friend who constantly talks about his duck and how it wasn't as fast as my F3, but handled much better... Or there were a million other Honda insults I recieved... Sometimes I think he was trying to justify spending 4 more grand for a spots bike that really couldnt compete with the mainstream street bikes...
For example, Honda 929 or 954i or even Yahama R1 handle better and are much more ballsy..
Speaking of balls hows your boyfriends, riding on that 750 monstor all day ?? that damn gas tank is a killer on long rides... I'm not saying my f3 was any more comfortable but I swear the Duck gas tank is the worst ball killer ever !

you don't buy a Duc to go fast, nor to be the best handling bike in the world, to do so is buying out of ignorance. You buy a Duc because they are different. You buy a duc because you LIKE V-TWIN POWER, you like the torque out of a V-twin, I could give a million reasons why, but it boils down to the fact that THEY ARE DIFFERENT, that and you don't have to rev to a bagillion RPM just to get any power out of them.....granted they don't produce as much HP, but I don't want to be at 11 billion RPM while I'm going down the high way, much less from stop light to stop light going 40....

Considering that a week after getting it he took it on a 1500 mile ride through Arkansas from Dallas, Texas and back in 3 days.....I don't think it bothered him.....and I'm not quite sure how you get that a Monster has a ball killer tank....you aren't even sitting up on the tank....
maybe you need to deflate yours and rethink your comments before you blurt them out accusing someone of something they NEVER said....
I said that a 'busa was good for straight lines.........
NOTHING comparing MY bike or any Duc to ANYTHING else out there.
