Thumbs up Car Security idea

Ok, this is going to be mostly for developers but has anyone thought about if their car was getting broke into that the alarm would trigger the camera on the car computer to take live video and forward that to a webserver??? This is assuming that your car has internet access whereever you park it. (In which case in my area their are wifi spots all over. I have been installing wifi into McDonalds and other business. I dont think this would be to hard to do, but I am not a software developer. Just a securiity analyst.

you'd have to post a sign to the effect:" video surveilence in use" or the evidance could be usless in court since you didn't gain the aledged perpetrator's permission to record their images/sounds"

So just post the sign and spare the expense.

Have you though about the issue of having the computer on all the time. By the time the computer boots up or comes out of hibernation and the program to capture the video is started the theif may be done with his business and already gone.

I seen this on pimp my ride a little while back they put a creative web cam on the steering column and it takes a pictures every 10 seconds or so. Cool idea but kinda useless overall.

Well, this was something i thought of before myself. Its very possible - but just scrap the idea of using the computer. Think about this. Digital Camcorder should start recording within seconds. Tapping into an Alarm Lead such as the Siren (for example - though woud need a different lead) that would set off an outside unit which to tell the Digital Camcorder to start recording. Now this biggest problem would be relocating the optics to a feasable location.

daracers,

Forgive my ignorance but if your going to use a digital camcorder? How are you going to review the dvd Hi8 Tape when/if the theif is successful stealing your vehicle? Wouldnt the Digital Camcorder be in the vehicle?
That why I liked the computer/ internet idea because it could wake the computer and send pictures to a web server. Than you can take the pictures into your local Police Station.

Replace the webcam with a shotgun! no one will be stealing that car!

I think your time would be better spent building a hidden, standalone GPS-mobile phone system, possibly with a motion sensor you disable. That way when your car is moved (and the sensor not disabled by you) it sends you a text alert or calls you. You can then call the phone triggering GPS co-ordinate text messages or have a dial in system that reads the GPS co-ords to you.

If you have a spare 3G phone you could also remote mount the camera and dial in and watch what is going on and then take your phone to a nice friendly police man who can then dial in too and be a good reliable witness!

Sure way to not have your car stolen by Hopperhawk...

Okay.. This may take a second... BUT...
First, post a sign that reads "Danger! High Voltage security system may cause injury or death" - You know to fore go the leal reprocussions that will follow.
Next, Get yourself 6-10 High voltage capacitors (Like the kind you may use for automotive power amps). Then set up your cars electrical system to charge these monsters while you drive. Once charged, and wired together they are capable of welding the shmucks bones to whatever metal he was unfortunate enough to complete the circuit with. IE Metal steering wheel, and perhaps... I dont know, the shifter ZAP ZAP sizzle smoke. It would be an unfortuenate mess to have to clean up... But perhaps the next one would think twice.
Aside from that, I would say mustard gas is always a favorite...
OR! a hidden wire from the shifter to under the dash... As soon as car is taken fomr park or out of first, it yanks the pin on a flash bang... Hrmmm that could be a mess. WHy dont you fools just either get insurance or buy a 17 year old car to yak around with like I did
LOL H AH AH A... PS, those in my neighborhood know that I have these ideas and dare not even test my door handles for fear of... accidents

I was just thinking if someone broke in to rip out all the good stuff. If someone was to take the car, I don't know if anything could really work, guess some gps system would be best off with internet communications.

What is that crap going to do to ya? Unless you install the alarm yourself and actually put the started kill in a GREAT Position, it'll take a theif no time to bypass it hiding right under the streering column. Two remember, theifs don't only hotwire, they've gotten smarter these days. In extreme cases those bastards use tow-trucks now because of the new immobolizer systems today.
