Audi A4 A6 VW owners unite!
Since these cars share many similar features, I am proposing that we start a thread to help each other with our installs. You can post your car-specific questions here and hopefully we will be able to help each other out! The issues I can think of off the top of my head are:
1) wiring
2) custom mounts
3) vehicle specific adapters / gadgets
4) custom faceplates, fabs
5) News/Events
6) etc...
I'll start out with a question: I am trying to move the stock Head Unit in my 2002 A4 to the glove box and put a lilliput there instead. However, to my dismay, the wires that connect to the HU do no reach that far. Any ideas as to how to do this install?

Are A8 drivers welcome????
What kind of headunit? BOSE/Concert II
How about just extending the wires.. if you get some 8 conductor wire all you need is 2 sets to extend and bam your set... just cut and extend.
You may run into an issue with the cd changer wire.
How much extension are you looking for?

A4 here. I use stock radio. I cut and solder it all the way in the trunk.
Because I have symphony2 in dash 6 disc changer. It won't fit in the glove box.
I don't think I need to adjust anything from the stock head unit.
I connect sound card to the stock unit via the sony cassette adapter.
Sound good enough for me.
This is good for now. Still deciding on amp and speaker.
2004 A4 Quattro
Xenarc 700TS
Old computer AMD 525, 192mb, 15gig
3dfx 3000, SB Live
Media Engine, GPS Rikaline 6060 and Ninja Money FE
XMDirect Frodo Standalone XM
(too bad the stock XM antena cannot be use, stock use two connections type,
XMDirect use only one connection.)
NaviVoice, Microphone hide in the map light dome.
DVD-ROM and CD-RW in the glove compartment soon.
Inverter: 300 Watt Mobile PowerStation by Monster cable company.
It includes remote turn on lead.

I could be completely off my rocker....but wouldn't most VWs fall into teh same category and all......since VW IS the parent company of audi? not to mention porsche?
so wouldn't the wiring and other be very similar among the jetta/golf/gti/passat/a4/a6/a8/a3?

cut them and solder them back according to the length that you need.....not sure why you would need an entire thread dedicated to audis just for that

doesn't Audi use standard ISO-connectors to connect their audio? If this is true (I don't have an Audi-radio in my A4), it seems to me that you can find connectors to extend your cables!

Ok, the original idea for this thread is for all audi/vw owners to help each other out with vehicle specific issues. One might argue why not just use audiworld forums, etc., but I feel they are not carpc specific enough. I'm hoping people would be able to share they audi/vw install experiences.
Anyways, both ISO connector and cutting the wires would work, but probably the ISO connector would be cleaner and easier. Are these ISO connectors?
Anyone know where I could get extension adapters?
http://potato.smashedhat.com/pattjin/audi/stereo.php
The only thing is (if you look at the link above), there are two more connectors I need to extend. The round black one is for the antenna, and the small yellow one I think is power. Any ideas for those?
Not sure if the glove box sizes are different b/t the 2002 and 2004 a4, but someone told me that the HU should fit in the 2002 glvoe box.

Not to mention, those forums are often plastered with Off Topic discussions.

Hi everybody, I have a 2004 A3 and I'm Stuck with the aux in line, I've bought an adapter I found on e-bay but it doesn't work with my Concert II radio-cd... it has two wires with RCA jacks on one end, and a Cd changer connector on the other... I`ve "googled" a bit and it seems to be a matter of some wires missing on the connector which should send some kind of signal to the concert, for this to recognize my car-pc as an audio source...as long as Concert II has no Aux source selector...
Any Ideas most welcome....
Regards.

Ah, yes...you need the Blitzsafe Audi/Aux DMX V.1B See here:
http://www.blitzsafe.com/blitz_catal...litz_audi.html
You can get it from autotoys or several other online places. Look at the dealer locator link to the left.

03 Audi A3 here
Clarion DXZ746MP head unit (one of the few that had red lighting to fit with the rest of the dash) powering the speakers. Reasoning behind getting an entire new head unit was the FM modulator I was using as a temp aux in just wasnt cutting it. Direct Aux in was a must. The speakers are the stock Audi ones as the 4" are awesome, and hardly any manufacturers make decent 4" units that would sound much better anyway. And for that extra bit of bass, Alpine 12" Type S sub, and an Alpine MRD-M301 amp.
Carputer will be back in at the end of the week, just 'tweaking' the setup before it all goes in. Boot install will be semi-custom. Will get pics up as soon as its done.
