My Documents screen always opens
This has been happening for a while on my desktop (since installing SP2) and I can't find any relevant answers anywhere else so I thought I'd try you clever sods..
Everytime I log on to my user account, a window opens up in the middle of the screen showing the contents of the 'my docs' folder, it doesn't matter if I close it and restart or minimise it first it always comes up the same size and position in the middle of the screen. the same thing happens on all the other users with their own 'my docs' folders
Any ideas?
Is someone ****ing around with my PC?
Cheers
Steve

Or run regedit and check all the items in the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run

For windows XP, this alone will not work.
As suggested, download and run hijackthis, and remove suspicious items. Also get Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware SE. Update and run those as well. Hope this helps eh?

HiJack This is basically just a frontend for editing the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run key. It also shows you what extra buttons have been added to IE etc. I was just stating what the easy fix would be for getting rid of the My Docs folder showing on startup. Now if you really want to protect your PC, run AVG Free, Ad-Aware SE, and ZoneAlarm, and put your PC's behind a router and firewall.

No man, you're way off. Hijackthis also takes care of the HKEY_CURRENT_USER run key, and BHO's as well. Also, don't forget about dumb programs that puts crap in the runonce key, and what about SERVICES man?! RunServices key also has junk in it as well, depending on which version of windows. And it also shows what's in the startup folder on the start menu as well, current user and all users. Something wrong in there could also be causing the My docs to show up. I'm not saying you're wrong, just clarifing, to help the unknowing.

It could be as simple as a shortcut to the My Documents folder in your startup group.

That's what I was thinking. I shortcut in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup would open it in all user accounts.
