That is a interesting thought on the matter. I'll have to put some thought into that as well.

Would be really cool to have like a forward and reverse looking cam that would be recording all the time. Shame that would take a decent amount of power to do.

Thats why I wanted to do the gumstix route, because it's such a low power unit that it could potentially run for 4 or 5 days without me around the car.

But I do like the video idea

Then, since the image is split into many motion detectors, you are not interested in local changes like people walking or cars moving, but more interested in whole scene changes, which would indicate that the car was thumped.

In such case, you would dump that last 10mins of video + the next 10 mins or so. That way, you have a historical record of what just occured.

I've been thinking of having continious monitoring for a while now, and having a button to dump that last x minutes to disk. that way, if u see something that you wish you recorded... you can!

Well this is sort'a on topic. I wanted to do a climate control like deal as posted before, but Phidgets seems quite expensive. Would this be a good alternative?

http://www.pololu.com/products/pololu/0727/

The servo controllers on there I think are the same thing... Didn't seem worth starting another thread on.

I used this exact controller in my fold up screen. It works very well and is extremely easy to code up. Only takes a few lines of code to operate the servo. It should easily operate your climate controls.

Sweet thanks. Also thought they would be cool for cruise control, but I don't trust a computer enough for that.

Yeah, I would for sure have a manual disengage. But if something went awry and it took me that extra second to turn it off I could get screwed.
