Death of a MP3Car

Had the fun experience of my heatercore blowing while driving on the highway last month. VWoA agreed to pick up the ($900) tab to replace it, so in preparations for taking it into a dealership for the first time in 10+ years, I figured it'd be pertinent to pull all the custom wires out of the dash. In building the setup incrementally, I had fogotten just how much stuff I had cramed into the dash. Its amazing how quickly you can disassemble large poritons of the dash after you get used to it. Accomplished the following in just under an hour as it started to snow Thankfully, only had to cut one wire, everything else I had put a spade connector in at the proper spot.

Hopfully they'll hurry up and get it back to me before my spring break is up, as I know that its going to take a lot more than an hour to put it back together.

So it's more like "Deep Freeze of a MP3Car" . Good, I thought this was going to be another accident/break-in post. Sucks about the heatercore though.

You appear to be lucky - no airbags.
I hate those things. Who cares about passengers anyway?

How in the world did you convince VW to pay for the repair on a 10 year old car?

Recall most likely.
Just like BMW paid for the same thing (before it blew tho) on my 20 year old car

same way Dodge is having to replace the ball joints on 2000-2003 dakotas and durangos

=]

sucks but I have one question

why take everying out of the car?

are you worried about someone taking everything? or what? the car isn't under warranty, and the computer isn't the cause of your problem, so why take it all out?

Exactly, they HAVE to fix it, no matter what else you have done to the car (almost)
If they refuse to fix it just because of a carputer they are in deep ****.

What, you don't think my BMW was still stock after 20 years do you?

The entire dash has to be stripped down to the firewall (eeeeeverything) to replace the heatercore, so I pulled everything not factory from the dash. And there's a recall on the part, thus vw is replacing it (even on a 12 year old car ).

The car's from 93, so it has 0 airbags, so death all around .
