carpc related stuff at CeBit (computer exhibition)

Hi everybody
i have been at this years CeBit Computer exhibition in Hannover (germany) and i have found some CarPC related stuff that i wat to share with you guys...

if you want to see all my pictures from the exhibition check out my Album (hosted locally behind a cable connection)

first of all something for those looking for a nice display to fit a 1Din slot. JVC bringts a new head unit to the marked that contains a small (3") screen in it. so it's no slide out it's just built in and visible all times. it's called KD-AVX1

microsoft's "carpc" idea

this is how microsoft put some pc's in a car (none are really built in, they are just in some stands and stuff, but the car is need and the number of pc's is need too )

intel's mini cooper

yet another mini at intel's booth. now tehy have really built-in a pc even with a flush-mounted display in the dash and two more in the headrests. tehy use their own front-end for it (have no clue where to get that or a demo of it, but it looks nice). the have no good navigation solution, they just use navigon i guess, which means they need a keyboard to enter the destination (you can see it on the first picture, layin on the passenger side seat)

steering wheel controls are not hooked up yet, but they can do that too, their pc also has connectors for the can bus and other things.

acutally this company installs such systems in bmw 5 and 7 series and charge quite some money for it

i was told that they build everything themselves, even the powersupplies and that stuff..

here are some related links:
cpu manufacturer: www.imperio.de
carpc builder: www.eepd.de

Navigator

now here comes the real good news!

Navigator (GPS Software for both Windows and Linux) will lounch their Touchscreen interface very soon (begining of april i was told).

up on my request they showed me their interface (on a 19" screen) but it seems to be still a beta or something. anyway, they have onscreen keyboards and big buttons but noone at their booth could tell me if it was skinnable or not..
we'll have to wait to the release or ask them directly..

you can see all screenshots (they allowed me to take) and some infos about it in my Album starting from here and on the folowing pages

here's a screenshot of the welcome screen:

and last but not least another costy front-end which isn't any better and probably worse than most opensource alternatives known here on the board:

thanks frodo for the link.. looks promsing (of course the guys at the booth told me that it will not work on a regular pc.. i don't get that.. those manufacturers pay so much money to be at that exhibition and then they put people in their booth who don't have a clue about their products! what's that good for? the worst example was the italian company who produces the flybook. they only have one product, a laptop and they had quite a big booth with many many nice looking girls. but no one knew anything about those nifty laptops and everybody was just clicking around on their units which mad you feel like you where not allowed to disturb to ask a question. and if you asked a question like "does it support screen rotation" you got an answer like "i have seen a collegue of mine doing it, but i don't know how, so yes, i guess it can do it you'll have to find out yourself" ... gee, i wonder how long they will exist (the booth was pretty empty, no shows nothing))
