Well, if you don't feel like running a lot of cables then consider building a glovebox PC. That'll require you to use a VIA system.
How about the stereo? Do you use it? Will you miss it dearly when its gone and the AM/FM project isn't for sale?
How about AMPs?

Running the cables really depends on how hard it would be to do it, if its to much work then i will go with the glovebox or I saw someone who installed his computer in his center console in his Magnum. With the stereo I really wont miss am/fm not quite sure what you meant when you said: (Will you miss it dearly when its gone and the AM/FM project isn't for sale?) but I do have sirius satellite radio that I hope I dont have to part with. I have one amp in my car right now not quite sure how many watts I will check tomorrow, If I need to I will buy another one.

Well, do you really want to build a trunkpc? More cables to run, etc... The only reason I'm doing it is because I want more power than VIA can offer, and because it will reduce my cable length (since I won't be using the stock amps).
About the AM/FM... there is an ongoing project to get *good* AM/FM radio onto the computer. Basically if you remove the headunit then you lose the radio. So I asked if you really love listening to AM or FM radio.
About Sirus: I think there is a thread about it somewere. But the problem is that there isn't much software for it like there is for XM
Also check if the AMPs use a proprietory signal to connect, like VWs monsoon amps (they get 5v on one channel or something).

I know the Magnum has a stock amp so I dont really want to run cables all the way to the trunk, Ya am/fm is not really a big deal to me. So what I really need help with is the hardware you think I need to buy. I have red a couple of your other threads and you seem to know alot about this stuff so anything you can help me with would be much appreciated. Any question you have about the car feel free to ask because what I really want with this is it to look factory.

Is that the color of dash that you have?
Check if you can use the stock amp with an aftermarket deck. That way we'll know if you need new amps. If an aftermarket deck will work, then its a matter of splicing up the cables.
About the computer: what do you want to do with it? Voice recognition (a.la. acura/MB navigation systems with voice recognition)? Gameing?

I do want to use the voice recognition program that you wrote, also what I want is navagation, dvd, mp3 player, reverse camera, dvd burner maybe, gaming would be nice too.

Yeh, check about the amps
The problem with the VIA boards is that they are underpowered. Voice recognition isn't going to be *great*. Gaming, what kind? HL2? Mame? Dvd-burner... do you really want coasters? Most poeple end up choosing the cheaper dvd/cd-rw. Reverse cam needs a tuner.

ya we will see about the burner stuff, and the gaming stuff Im not quite sure what those are, what kind of tuner would I need for the reverse camera?
So do you suggest I custom build my computer or buy a whole one from mp3car.com? I really want to get started on this so could you list everything you think I need to buy in order to get started? Also would you be willing to help me build this thing?

ok this is what i suggest:
go with the via epia board, it's underpowered for gaming, but there is a work around. It integrates seamlessly into the car and is small and quiet.
get a xenarc and you don't need a tuner, the xenarc has auto switch to composite (from vga) when it senses a signal. so basically this means turn on your reverse camera and it'll display on the xenarc. turn it off and it'll go back to vga and display what your computer is showing.
navigation, no problem usb or garmin oem module
dvd burner, no problem (dont know how useful it'll be though...if you have the money go for it)
voice recognition...you are talking to the right guy for that.
you should go to xm over sirus. you can pick up a xm direct reciever (like i just did) from buy.com for $10 w/rebate and have one of the front ends control it with frodo's software.
gaming...if you really want gaming just hook up an x-box or similar gaming console and feed the video into the xenarc when you want to play it. This will give you great gaming without taxing your computer, still allow you to have dvd, mp3, nav. or what have you while your passengers play.
and the amps will most likely be able to be interfaced, is it an infinity system in the magnum?

Thanks for all the suggestions, next question is where do I buy all this stuff for the best price? also you are right about the dvd burner no need for it. I have a free year of Sirius which ends in september so maybe then sirius will have something for a car pc, if not I will swithc to the XM. Any other suggestions on things I should install that you guys have?

I'd custom build.
I'd get the monitor first. Get a spare dash (either from dealer or junkyard) and start molding the screen in. Then you can plan your further steps. IMO voice needs more processing power than the VIA can offer. But the VIA is quiet. The reason I'm building a trunkputer is because its gonna be quiet in my cabin (I don't want a tornado sound every time a song ends and I'm at a light). Your problem would be that you can't build a trunkputer because you have no trunk that is seperate from the cabin.
Were is your spare tire? Is it inside? Ever consider removing it and seeing how much space you have isntead of it?
