Software install problems

I've been trying to install some software on the car pc and have been getting an error that I've never gotten before. This error is not application specific. It occurs each time I try to install ANY new software.

Case in point: Upgrading from Windows Media Player 8 to 10, the setup and install program begins to run, then I get the following error:

"The software you are installing has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP. (Tell me why this testing is important.)

This software will not be installed. Contact your system administrator."

You are left with only the option to hit "Okay". Not evene greyed out "install anyway".

Sounds like you've got some permission problems.

i havent seen anything like that in a while. and i personally cant see either why that etesting is important. only when your installing a driver should you get a similar message and it would be for a legit reason. but for installing software, that just baffles me. sorry i cant be of more help though.

hmmm, that is pretty funny windows does not know that another m$ program is safe to load.

I wonder if whatever library or registery entry is responsible for those (what should be warning) messages that pop up when you are installing 3ed party drivers or software warning you that the driver/software is not known to be compatible are you sure you want to install... might have been curopted or if there is a setting somewhere to adjust wether windows prompts you to continue, always continues, or never installs. I never played with it, just a guess.

good luck, I hope this post made sense

Thanks for the link, Boris. Turns out that my "Cryptographic Services" was turned off. Turning it back on fixed it.

Thanks for the help, everyone!
