Question 88' Lincoln

my 88' Lincoln Continental is currently in the shop. It has brake problems. I was told this has possibly something to do with the anti-lock brakes, and that they would be really expensive to fix. Has anyone here ever worked with these cars, and do you know of a way around it? Such as a different type of Anti-lock brake box that will work, or anything? Thanks alot.

The only option I can think of is disabling your ABS or checking out some junk yards.
If you check more than just the junk yards in your state you should be able to find the parts for a decent price.

Cool

Yeah, I agree. The best place to get parts would be the wreckers. What's the exact problem you are having? If ABS is an option, you can most likely disable it without any ill effects, but I can't say for sure.

Now I am certainly no expert but I didn't think antilock brakes even existed in 1988. Correct me if i am wrong.

Cool

ABS existed in '88. In fact, the '86-'92 RX-7 had ABS as an option.

Whats wrong is, I have no power brakes!
I was told that the ABS system had something to do with this by the mechanic.
I think I will be selling the car, so it doesn't really matter much.

Power brakes are entirely mechanical and have very little to do with the ABS system. Maybe it's time to try a different mechanic.

I've had mechanics tell me stuff about my Jetta that I KNOW weren't true. SO I took it to another shop and the fouond the RIGHT problem and fixed it for about 1/3 the price.

P.S. I can usually fix anything on my car but Faulty electronics and alignment problems I usually leave alone...

Cool

Remember: The airbrake system used on big trucks has nothing in common with passenger car brakes.
