Looking for a place to start (circuts) Etc..

Hope this is the right place to put this

Let me get right to the point... though the past few years I have seen various schematics and whatnot for building power supplies and other devices I could have really used.

Up to this point I have kept away as all the information seemed like quite a lot to take in. Now I am interested in taking the steps I need to in order to finally start to understand how to understand these schematics and build my own devices. But I am lost on where to start.

Can anyone give a newb to this stuff a little guidance on where to go or what to look at?

I'd say two good sources are

1. discovercircuits.com

2. A book by Hill and Horowitz "The Art of Electronics." It's THE standard for learning electronics and design
