hardwire powerinverter

I realize this isn't completly about carputers but i was woundering what i would have to do to hardwire a power inverter into my truck to give me a home AC outlet in the back of my truck. when i say hardwire i am meaning that what you see in your home is what you would see in my truck...i want to inverter to behidden (already know how to do this) and i know how to mount a home AC outlet in my truck but how would i get the power from the inverter to that AC outlet? it seems like it should be easy but i just can't come up with it. THis isn't how i will be powering my carputer (i am getting a dc-dc PSU) but this AC outlet in my truck would be great for me.....if this is too choppy let me know b/c it is 12:30am and i just got off from working about 14 hours today...thanks for any and all help........this site is great and is the reason i started the carputer, when i get it all together i will get pictures up.

Depending on how many watts the inverter is rated at, buy the appropriate gauge power wire and hook it directly to the battery. Then you could run regular Romex style wire from your AC outlet back to the inverter.

Ummm...couldn't you just plug an extension cord into the inverter and place the other end of the cord where you need it? Or cut the end off the cord and connect it to an outlet box that you embed somewhere in the vehicle?

aside from the thread being a couple months old, yes, that's how i would do it.

run a cord from the existing inverter outlet, cut the other end off the cord, and attach it to the proper terminals on the reciptical (outlet).

The flexible blue plastic conduit works good to protect the wiring.

For anyone dropping on this thread due to its bad resurection, if you want to put an inverter in you vehicle for an AC outlet, keep the DC 12v leads thick and short, and use longer AC leads, this gives less loss and a better setup.

It easier to extend the buttons off the inverters on/off to a nice pont instead of puttin a switch on the inverters +12v line, inverters can melt cheap switches etc.

Put a fuse on it!

And after all that, please leave dead threads dead!
