36kHz is what you want. Only a few remotes run higher upto about 40khz....

I thought that in australia they were 38kHz??

I dont think its a region thing with the freq.... I know some pioneer gear runs at 40khz.....

Umm but the recievers sold by DickSmiths and Jaycar operate at something like 37.9mHz..

The part used by IRMAN is TSOP1736 (36KHz). You can easily use a 38KHz as well... it might get better reception from remotes.. but either one works just fine.

for anyone in Australia working with IRman's I found that the IR module sold by Dick Smith to be terrible with 5 out of 6 remotes I tested... that is the codes reported back from the IRman were very inconsistent.

In contrast the module sold by Jaycar with the same pin layout works a treat. So my advice would be to go with the Jaycar unit.

Okey, I'll get the one from Jaycar, not Dick Smiths, it's further to drive, but thats not my problem.... I don't drive...

Would the TSOP1836 work as well?? It's smaller and would fit into a 9pin socket more easily.... It's made by Vishay Telefunken

I got the TSOP parts the other day....wired it in parallel with the IRMAN so now I got 2 eyes =) one in the dash and one in the case. It works great!

update: i posted the pics of the IRMAn eye in the MSI6215 case.
