I do not usually reply to my own post... but this time is an exception.

The FV24 mobo cost is $120 and I think it's better than the other link I posted.
The only store I found on pricewatch that carries it just happen to be 20 min from where I live in LA =)
I am really contemplating in driving there and picking one up this week although I am pretty happy with my MSI 6215. I would just like to see how small a case I can build for it hehe

their website is www.mwave.com if anyone is interested in getting one.

This measures 7X7 in, and has a ton of features that newer bookPC's have and is ready for any memory and CPU upgrades up to 1Ghz PIII's. Only downside is that it doesn't have a lcd controller on board like all advantech boards do...but it does have tv-out for ntsc tft screens.
I checked out the manual in pdf and it also comes with an aluminum backplate with the I/O connector holes... which would be perfect for making your own case for it.

For those of you looking for embedded small mobo's this is it, and probably $100's less than any advantech embedded PC.
All the connectors are on board so you dont need to buy extra cables as in the case of advantech boards. Has built in tv-out, lan, serial port ( for IRMAN of course), USB, firewire, even AC97 LINE-OUT! (this is diff than the speaker out on regular sound cards bc it's NOT amplified).
As soon as i get it in my hand I will post updates in this thread =)

Now go and order one! and forget advantech hehe ( no offense to thos using advantech's embedded mobo's of course)

While I can guarantee that this board is not going to come close to touching the price of the FV24 you posted a link to, I can say that this is the most capable board of it's size i've seen. It's 4" by 5.8" and has all of it's connectors onboard. If you don't mind the connectors not being on the board and having to simply connect the cables to the onboard leads, check out this board.

I couldn't tell, does the Shuttle FV24 have onboard sound? It seems to have everything else (PCI, FireWire).

I don't know what they would charge for a single unit as I have only requested pricing in quantities of 250 (which I'm still waiting for). With a PIII 700 and 256MB RAM I would imagine the unit would run in the neighborhood of $700-$900 for one based on what I've seen for similar products but don't quote me. Head on over to thier "Contact Us" page to see what they can do ya for.

moahdib:

Have you already bought the Shuttle FV24? Can you give a review of the motherboard for us? I'd like to know the good and bad points of this board before I buy it.

Cool!

Thanks a lot 2k1civic! I'm about ready to order one of these but I just used up all my spending cash so it's going to have to wait a couple of weeks...

I am about 80% finished building a plexiglass case for the FV-24. I am just waiting for a 20X4 matrix orbital display I will be putting in the front of the case.

2k1civic, after posting I found that cube case from directron too. Since my new setup will be for home use anyway I think im going to go with this one and try to find a place to mount a 40x4 in it :-)

Plus its only 25 bucks...cant beat that with a stick.
