Thanks Roy....
BND, it may have started back then but people keep asking/searching the same question so it's much better to keep that thread alive with newer posts

reading the first couple of posts in that other thread makes me wonder what it was like building a car comp back in 2000. Seemed a lot harder and someone was using DOS 7 with sounddrivers?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Not the right place, but my first carputer started with WIN98, then I upgraded to SE. MUhahahaha, those were the days.

I joined here about a bit less than an year ago.... (read to the left, it will prevent me from having to scroll up and see my join date )... anyways, just looking at how far frontends and other support software has come in this short time makes me 1) very hopeful for the near future, and 2) very understanding of the poor soles who have been at this for 5yrs+!
(yes I understand that the functions and uses have slightly changed, but not in all cases)

Yes, it was harder. I still have my original system from '99, still running strong after nearly 6 years.
I wrote my own sound driver and player - source code still on my site.
