you really should check your tires more than twice a year..... the normal sepage that a tire incurs will outweigh the benifit of nitro....

at the end of the day racing tyres are more critical and see greater temp changes. I doubt putting air in my tyres will cause me any real problems.
Nitrogen bottles are easy to come by though and wont have any moisture in so there is another benefit.

I guess nitro is a high performance alternative; they use it on plane wheels. The stresses on them are extreme, just re-run last night's news through.

unless your going 150 & drifting the apexes the tires won't vary much from parked to hwy.... that's really what it's all about......

aircraft have to use dried gas due to the freezing temps so nitrogen is freely available with no water inside. Also if you have a fire in the gear bay or your brakes go on fire and cause the pressure release plug to melt then nitrogen getting released into flames is a bit safer than air!

oh, further to earlier answers, i didnt realise that nitrogen and oxygen were so close together (been a few years since i looked at a periodic table). The difference in air to pure nitrogen relates to something like a 2.5% difference with temp. at car pressures that is not much but at aircraft and pressures (aircraft will crack regular tarmac due to the pressures) and race car tollerances i guess it counts.

At the end of the day....it's another one of those things to add social HP to your car down the local boozer!

The point of putting nitrogen only in the tires really has nothing to do with it being nitrogen, its the moisture content that really only makes a difference.

in other words it's a realatively cheap solution to a zero moisture content gas.

that I'd by...... if you use a clean shop w a clean air system it will be good though...., I guess nitrogen is a good way to garentee clean air though.....

.

I just don't know if it's actually worth the 5 bucks per tire. However I wasn't thinking about moisture and that might make a different for a car that sits all winter (i.e. an antique car)

so there charging you an extra 20 bucks so you can get what any good shop should be able to provide for free (clean filtered air)

I hear the nitrogen molecules are more complex and are bigger than O2. So you shouldn't lose tire pressure like the normal air filled tire.

Nitrogen is Diatomic, its much like Oxygen, its not going to be much differnt other than the fact its accually lighter than Oxygen is. Like previous posts have suggested, its only real benifit is for reducing moisture.
