Cut USB power
I have a EPIA MII10k and I want the USB power to shut off. I don't use my car much and it keeps draining my battery. Is there any way to do that? I still want my Opus to put my carputer in hibernate and not just cut the power.

you could cut the wire that goes from the battery

Depends on how you're powering the thing. Most standard ways (Opus, CarPC EZ, etc) have that feature built in, but if you use an inverter you can use a startup/shutdown controller (DSSC is the recommended one) to cut the power to your inverter (thusly all the connected perifs like USB stuff) and send the computer into hibernate.

I have the Opus set up to put it in hibernate, but after it goes into hibernate I want the power cut off. The way I understand it is if the Opus is set to not give standby power, it will just cut the power to the system meaning no hibernation and potential of HD corruption. Does it wait to cut power after it initiates the shutdown? Or is there a BIOS option or something I can use to disable the standby power to USB devices when shutdown?

There is a mod you can do to the Opus so that it will cut the power to the USB peripherals. If you are handy you can do it yourself. If not, you can always send it back to Opus to have them do it for you. Let me find the link...
Edit: http://www.fmev.com/opusmod3/opusmod3.html (not my site, perform at your own risk)

hibenate doesn't need power at all and no, normal DSSC (OPUS) do not necessarily cut ALL power. usb devices will still trickle power unless you do the relay mod

There is a 10 page long thread on this site that discusses how to cut USB standby power on an OPUS 150.

The 90w opus has a jumper on it that disables the standby mode

Actually, the DSSC _does_ cut power completely to all devices connected inline with it. For example, if you power your USB hub with the DSSC, it will not supply power to any of those devices when the vehicle ignition is off.

no but all usb devices connected will take a trickel feed which could potentially drain your battery

I'm sorry, that's not correct. When the DSSC disconnects power, it disconnects it _completely_, it's because the devices are disconnected from the battery (which they are by the relay's). There is 0 draw on the battery, even from USB, from devices connected through the DSSC.
Even the DSSC itself, draws 0mA from the battery when it's off - because it doesn't connect to the battery until it receives a signal on the ACC line.
Kind regards,

well unfortunately plenty of OPUS owners have actually tested this and found that it does indeed trickle power to the usb devices and then when they perform the relay mod (on their ATX cable) the current draw decreases to nearly nothing
