55" is end to end. That's the length that I had lengthened the cable, but that didn't work. Maybe making even tighter would of made it work.

Any progress?
You know I have just realized that the moving the HVAC project has been a major topic for almost a year now. Just a thought.

Yea, and no one has really figured out a good way to do it yet. Most guys give up and a few just decide to move it to the glove box. This hasn't been a weekend project for me, it's tough stuff. I've been tossing theories around for a while, but I would only count from the time I got my extra cable in from the dealer as my starting point in actually figuring out how the whole thing works and the forces involved. So far my progress is good. So good I finally ordered my 10.4" screen, so I'm committed now.
Keep in mind I'm juggling a dozen projects so it may be a while. I still need to measure for a center console install, but I'm also considering another location. Right above the center vents. I was considering putting my Alpine controller there and I swore I did a PS of the climate controls there, but I can't find it. Anyway, below is a pic of the location.

Wholy cow! That's great, but why so big? People said the 10.4" was awefully large, but I wanted it anyway because it can fit.
Do you have more info on how you modded the dash?

@ JasonWW: On the second picture you posted at the beginning of this thread, i can see a connection cable to the DLC OBD II 16 PIN connector.
Why?
Greetings, Bernhard

I ordered a 10.4" Lilliput. With shipping and everything it's just under $300 so that's not bad.

Do you mean Curious's car? He has a OBD data port thing that tells him all the cars data on the PC. Those can be bought a few places. I think his is the T16-006 with an adaptor cable from this place.

He's an electrical engineer and designs a lot of cool stuff. There is a link by the pictures to his website.
Here is a similar one.

I'm trying to come up with a good idea to redo my current sound system and so far I think I could use some new subs. My current ones are 9 years old now, so they are due. I have 2 amps that produce 600w at 4ohm mono to power them with. Now due to me wanting to use the back storage well for my junk, I want to use the gas tank and rear seat area for my new install.
I know I want the subs as far back as I can get them so that means they will be under the rear window. I can fit a 2 cu ft box there and mount 2 12's or I can go bigger and mount 2 15's. To get the extra space I will extend the box forward and then down at a 45* angle. That angle would be a great spot to mount all 3 of my amps together in one long row. They would be easily seen right behind the seats if the windows were down and they were lit up. I can mount the PC and other parts right below the amps facing straight forward. I'll still have some storage in the rear foot wells, but the rear seat area will mostly be used up in order to get the 4-5 cu ft I would need.
What do you guys think of this idea?
Do you think 1200w on a pair of 15's is fine?
Would the difference in output be worth the larger box and extra weight?

I Think two 12" Solo Barics would work best for you. They aren't really that expensive http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=39777 . 1500 watt mtx or kicker amp would be sweet too. I have an 8" in the middle of my car with a mtx rt251d (mono block 275 watt amp) and I love it. It's not overpowering and I can enjoy it.

I'm not too keen on the solobarics with their low sensitivity and compromised design in order to work in a small box. I was thinking more along the lines of the Elemental Designs 16Ov.2 or 130v.2 and I already have the amps, so I need to make sure the new subs work well with them.
I'm still thinking of getting the 15's as most f-bodies have a pair of 12's and I'd like a more than that.
Does anyone know if the difference in output be worth the larger box and extra weight?

I measured about 56" from center to center so I'm going to cut the sheath a little longer and see if I can thread it from the console to the dash. I need to cut a hole out in the console for the wires and cables to go through, but I hate taking the console out. I might be able to cut the hole with it in the car with my dremel and then vacuum up the mess. I'll start with the sheath a little long and then shorten it as necessary and once I get it's legnth finalized I'll start cutting the actual cable to length.
narandomsortofw, if you want to start collecting parts you can go to a bicycle shop and find a brake cable sheath that has a large enough inner diameter for the 2 cables. You can also go to a fishing supply store and find a 7x7 (7 strands of 7) 49 strand stainless cable. I got some that was 90lb weight, but other brands may have a different weight strength. The important thing is that the diameter needs to be 0.030". Any larger and it may not work. I need to test and take pictures of the crimp size and style and get a working unit together. I'm also finalizing how to connect the 2 sheaths together so they will stay centered as well as be removable in case a new cable needs to be threaded through.
Below is a picture I found on the internet. It is 70lb and 0.030, but my local place had 90lb in the same diameter. 70 or 90 are both fine.

narandomsortofw, in your pic below, do you have the little air bag or whatever box right in the way under the cupholder (on 6 speed cars)? If so, how did you route all the wires and stuff. I can't even get a finger through all that junk. Did you have to do a lot of cutting under there to make everything fit through?

I built a custom enclosure that sits wear my back seet used to be...i've got two Audiobahn 15's and two 12's i can control them as pairs so i can turn one set on and the other set off and vicewersa...anyway these is a huge difference for me in the amount and depth of the bass...and also volume....but the 15's have a much large dual voice coil...what i can tell you from my readings is that the more surface area your subs have the more air the can push which in turn gives you better or atleast more bass....alright that's all i have...how do i post pics on here?
