JasonWW, Thanks for creating this thread, since I know several people from LS1tech.com have come over here to check out the car PC scene after seeing mine and other member's installs. Kinda gives them a place to check out different ideas for their installs, especially since the install is difficult in these cars due to the lack of room.

No sweat guys. If you come across anybody else with a PC in their F-body, let me know so I can add it here.
Here's a new install (11-16-06) from narandomsortofw. He has a 2000 Trans AM. Using a Epia in the back cubby hole with a 8" LCD in the stock location. A/C controls are in the center console.
More pics can be found here:

Grrr you guys make me so jealous of your interiors. I got jipped on trying to fit a 7" touchscreen in a 93-96 Camaro interior. After seeing all these great pics, I'm seriously contemplating swapping my interior for a firebird or 97+ camaro interior... molding in the screen on my stock bezel is just too hard to make look good.

Here are 2 newer installs.
First is Zach's 01 SS Camaro
He's using a A85 Toshiba Satellite laptop, a Xenarc TSV 7" Touchscreen and is running the audio into the stock CD player which is tucked into the dash.

The second install is Sporty_Drew's 1998 Camaro.
He's running a Dell gx150 p3 1.0 Ghz, 80 gig 3.5" hard drive, m2-atx and Lilliput 619 LCD.
CD drive in sunvisor:

Got an Fbody and was wondering how much spaced is left, if any, after a 7" screen? I would rather not move the ac controls if I don't have to. Wish those controls were smaller. I am thinking about moving them to the left side over by the accelerator. There is quite a lot of space on either side behind the main console as Fbody owners know.

I'm really not looking forward to moving the A/C controls, so my other idea is to mount a motorized 7" screen in the factory radio location near the top of the oversized hole. Here's the neat part, mount it upside down so that the screen pulls out and then flips down. It will cover the A/C controls a little, but that's no big deal. The main thing is that it doesn't cover the vents.
Some monitors can flip the image upside down or else you can use software to flip it.
I also now have an Alpine faceplate thing that controls my new Alpine processor mounted in the back and that needs to be visable to use it, so I'm thinking I may convert an overhead console mold from an SUV to hold the controller. Kind of like in this pic on top of the dash, but instead of the A/C controls, it will be the Alpine controller.

Andy, you have a whole thread about your car remember?
You don't have to add pics on this thread. If you want I can change some of the pics I used on page one of this thread.

I really don't now what you mean. The hardest part to lengthen is the cables that control the temperature selector. The cables go from the controls to the right, under the glovebox area, so any type of relocation to the left is going to require legnthening the cables and that's pretty hard to do. That's why most folks relocate the controls to the right, like into the glovebox.
As far as a fixed 7" screen in a firebird, look at Curious's install. It just barely fit. If you mean a motorized 7" then they pretty much all stick out some. They are basically DIN sized like a radio, but the screen and the motors require it to stick out further plus it helps in creating room for the screen to flip up so they are all made like that.

Here is what I am thinking for a touchscreen. Relocate my ASR and Fog light switches which should be pretty easy. The Camaro name plate will have to go, maybe I can find a place for it. Then cut the piece of plastic that speparates those switches from the head unit. That should leave quite a bit of room for the screen and the A/C controls dont have to be moved. I would like to keep my stock head unit, could I move it to where my computer will be? Anyone know where I can get the wiring to do that easily? I want to keep speed control volume, radio, and steering wheel controls.

Doesn't camarossguy2 have the same dash as you? He fit a screen in there somehow.
Also, why do you want to keep the radio? I'm ditching mine.

I think his is a bit different and it looked like a really tight fit. Plus I could use a bigger screen if I go that route.
If I keep the stock HU I will still have speed control volume, radio, and steering wheel controls.

Do you mean the stock HU or the aftermarket JVC in your pic?
I always thought speed control volume was a useless gimmick.
You can add a radio tuner card if you still want to get FM. I thought it would be a good idea too, but FM kinda sucks. Between the static and the low fidelity, I doubt I will miss it.
You can still use your steering wheel buttons to control a PC.

I still have the Stock HU. That pic is not my car actually
At some point I may get computer FM and hack my steering wheel buttons then I could toss the HU.
