The setup in my car is more of a competition setup except I don't compete. Make sense? I'm into the high end sound so I try to do the best I can for the money I have. Right now I'm probably in the top 5% in the world in sound quality. So there's quite a few cars that sound as good or even better than me, but not too many.

I've only got 5 speakers total. 2 tweets in the A-pillar, 2 mids in the stock door locations and a single 12" sub in the rear storage area. I probably have less than $4K in the components all together and I did my own install so it's not the prettiest, but it works. My new and only source is the PC. It has the sweet S/P DIF out going to the Alpine PXA-H700 and then it goes to 2 Rockford 225.2 amps. One amp feeds 300 watts to Focal 165K mids in the doors and (older German made) Diamond Audio tweets in the A-pillars with Diamond Audio x-overs. The sub is an older Image Dynamics IDQ 12 DVC in a sealed enclosure receiving 150 watts to each of it's 2 voice coils. That's about it really. The key is in the tuning.

I'm not using any of the stock wiring either. I ran all new speaker and 0 ga power wire. The monsoon is still in the car, but it's not plugged in. The rear speakers are still there. The middle speakers by the rear seat are pulled out and left open. Although I do need to make some panels to cover the holes. It might help to decrease interior noise.

I'm going to be redoing my setup shortly. A new amp rack and moving some parts around. Going to add a 3rd 225.2 amp and my another IDQ 12" sub.

Here's some pics. This is the current setup. I built it with stealth in mind. I bought another rear seat at the salvage yard and gutted it and added an MDF panel inside it. I then used the cloth seat cover to fold over it. Very stealthy, but not so pretty. I recently replaced my Rockford EPX2 with the Alpine H700, so it's not in the picture. I'm going to make a more competition looking install with vinyl and plexi and it will have various lights and fans and such to show off the PC.

Lilliput makes a 10.4" touchscreen just like their smaller ones. About the same price as well. $260 + $40 for shipping. So about $300. For me it's not so much a question of money, it's just a matter of "can I get it to fit?".

My CarPC is coming along and for now Im using a tape adaptor for sound. I want to switch to something better and more permanent. Im not an audiophile so I dont need anything fancy. Can I plug into the monsoon amp? I know its near the spare tire but I havent looked at it yet. Could I run a lineout from my computer to the amp? Is the amp input RCA? Or should I do something different like aux-in?

If you want to use the monsoon I would recommend going over to LS1tech.com and check the Stereo & Electronics section. There are sticky's about the monsoon. It is a very unique amp, not at all like an aftermarket unit. The tweeters on a monsoon system are powered from the headunit, some of the speakers are 2 ohm and there are no RCA in's.
Check over there, I'm sure there are threads on adapting it.

What year is it and what kind of room in the dash do you have? I'll try and pull up some pictures and take a look. Do you have a common dash for your year or is it a unique model of car?
Are you going to remove the radio or do you need to add a screen and still have room for a radio?

I found some pics of a 86. How about using the location below the A/C vents and above the climate controls. I think you could fit a 7" in there and then just fill in the sides. Take a look at the pic below.

Thanks jason. You called it, I have a unique model. It's a berlinetta. This is what I have to work with (not my car, but very similar) Thanks

I think your really lucky. You have the perfect spot for a 10.4" LCD. Plus you have a sunshade with the dash. If you have room and no time, you may not even need to mold it in. Just mount the LCD with it's housing right there. If you want to get fancy you could make a new frame that better molds it in.

If I had your model of car I would stick the biggest screen I could right there in that cubby hole. You have room to change the angle on it plus it's within easy reach. Lucky bastard!

How's this screen? http://cgi.ebay.com/8-VGA-TFT-LCD-To...QQcmdZViewItem

Is the PC in the rear cushion kind of like my amps or do you mean in a bottom rear cushion?

I can't say on that LCD. You might want to check the forum and do a search on it. I wouldn't get anything less than a Liliput on the cheap end and maybe a Xenarc on the more expensive end. That one you showed is pretty cheap, so I'm wondering if the specs are correct. You never know, the display may not be as bright as they said it was. I trust the Liliput specs.

Did you measure your dash opening to see how big of a screen you could get in there?

sort of like your amps. The plexi glass case I made is horribly ugly though... the plexi I used was ancient and too brittle to make a nice case. Good thing you dont see it lol.
I'll go do a search on the forum. It is certainly cheap... I don't need anything extravegant. I'm looking for "adequate"
Thanks for all your help.

You cant see the screen here because of the camera flash but its a pretty acurate representation of how bad the reflection is when I am out driving during the day. It sucks!

One more thing...here is what I used for a temporary mount for my lilli. It worked pretty well.

Just get a bolt the same size as the lilli mount bolt but much longer. Take off your radio bezel and mount the bolt as shown securing it with one nut. Put a 2nd nut on it and the square lilli nut on the very end. Slide your lilliput down on the square nut and loosen the 2nd nut on the bolt....this will put pressure on the lilli mount and hold your screen in place.

Nice thread Jason. I have a 2002 Pontiac Trans Am. I am just fed up with my clarion deck. I have been comtemplating this for a while. I guess i'm goin to try an tackle this in a couple of months. I will post as it goes. I have one question though. I prolly know its already been discussed but I searched an couldnt find it. Is there any way or has anyone come up with a way of losing the stock a/c controls an possibly having the controlled by the car puter. I mean most of it is electrical, except for I believe a vacuum line and another line (not sure what it is lol) sorry im more of a mechanical guy than a electrical. Anyways I was just wondering if it could be done. That way u still have the clean look. Also with the space of your glove compartment and center console or where ever u might stick it. Also on a side not that last camaro added on the first page is clean looking. Very clean and nice install I wish our dashes were that tall that way we could keep it stock looking as well.
