Oh and the We Support Our Troops signs up in stores in BS. I'd like it if when I showed my id I could get a free meal or something. Some places give a small discount but its something that annoyed me.

I remember our last weekend of libo in Wilmington before we left for Iraq we couldn't get into any clubs because we only had our military ID's on us. The bouncers kept telling us we "needed to be members" of the club or bar while regular civilians got in. Apparently all the hip, ultrasensitive, multi-cultural kids couldn't handle a few Marines getting some drinks.

If you want to thank me, give me ammo, don't tell me how to fight "nicely", and leave me alone. When you meet a Marine/soldier that was in Iraq don't ask him if he had fun or how many people he killed. (<--- yes, people keep asking me those questions especially stupid preppy college kids)

When I got back from Iraq I got tons of free meals and what not just by showing my ID.

I'll thank any soldier for going into a ****ed-up, unpopular combat zone and laying their life on the line to protect me, despite that I'm (apparently) an angry n00b-bhashing opinionated son-of-a-*****.

I served for 6 years as a Staff Sergeant in the active duty Air Force, now im currently on a scholarship to become an officer Pilot. For me its not about the recognition or the free stuff, its about doing something for the friends and family in your life that you care about. Although sometimes they may not see it, they are trully the people you're going to work for everyday you wake up and slap on that monkey suit.

I think its the best job in the world and it makes my day when someone just comes up to me and extends their hand out and says ,"Thank you for all you do" It almost brings a tear to my eye everytime that happens. Some people join up so that everyone will bow to their will and thank them day in and day out....that is bull****....Remember that you volunteer for this job. Get a wife if you need "pats on the back".

Nice Avatar. You an 0313? I spent 6 years on those things. In the unlikely event they worked perfectly the thing was so much fun to play in the mud with!

yeah, you were with Bravo up in MD? I was with Delta. I'm in another unit now though. The pigs actually worked wonderfully in Iraq once we got them fixed up. some pigs had problems with the turbos after long periods of high speed driving in the 130+ C degree weather though... Drove more miles than I can even remember and we had to do some crazy Dukes of Hazzard driving chasing mofo's. LAV's ruled the roads out there (still do). We could go much faster than any other vehicle. On the wide open highways we clocked over 80MPH with full combat load (and we even had extra gear too). Hummers topped out at 60MPH. I hated having to escort them or the 7-tons because it'd take so long to get anywhere.

LAV's are/were great out west.

0321 and intel guy, former enlisted, now officer, two trips to the sandbox for me.

I make it my mission to thank all the older guys I see with WWII and Korean and Vietnam hats on. Those were the guys that really had it rough. It's a lot different now.
