Ds1620

I've used the DS1620 (mentioned early in the post )to monitor cooling water on some sensitive equipment.

It is perfect for controlling a simple resistive heating module. You can program them to operate as thermostats and run them independantly, you don't need a pic controller. It can be programmed from a serial port or multiple devices can be monitored via a parallel port.

I agree, but it looks like those products are available in other places as well. We'll see what happens.

I dont know if this was mentioned before but why cant you just buy a single seat warming pad. They are designed to heat to around 100-120° F in around 60 seconds. All you would need to do is turn them on for a min and your drive would have enough heat to start to work. And they only cost about 40 bucks for a basic one. Such as this http://www.sportsimportsltd.com/caborvbase12.html
They make them much smaller but they cost a bit more due to them be oem in high end cars. Just a thought.

I was thinking electric blanket or something like that. With a second battery you've got a few options.

I can vouch for the hvac solution. My rig hangs into the main heat vent and even though it is protected by a plexiglas enclosure, the fan come on on the winter after about 20 minutes. The system runs much cooler in the summer.

i'm having the same probs with the cold. My carpc case is on the floor behind the driver seat (for now) and i find that if i let the interior of the car warm up , which i usually do anyway, things seem to work fine. I thought about using a small heating pad and plugging it into my inverter. That way, when i go out to start the car, i can fire up the heater and go back inside. 15min later whn i'm ready to go, i can jump in the car, turn the heater off and hit the power button for the 'puter. Now i jus gotta get my gf to find her heating pad so i can try it out
