terrible CarPC situation - GONE! ..now a running log
well, here goes:
i had my carpc system disassembled in my computer area. parts, screws, etc sealed in ziplock bags to make sure i don't lose parts.
well, earlier today i went out with some friends. when i got back, my aunt had cleaned everything out. didn't bother to check to see what she was tossing.
my CarPC system is GONE. forever. thrown in the garbage, without asking my permission. over $300 worth of parts gone. everything in my sig, except for my LCD screen. this makes me so ****ed off. someone else rummaged through our garbage, and found the system. it's theirs now. i was beta testing the first batch of DSATX PSU's as well..and that is now gone.
EDIT: moved from sig, here is the old setup:
800MHz VIA C3 Samuel 2 Core ~~ Integrated Video/Sound ~~ 128MB PC133 ~~ 10GB HDD ~~ 10x CDROM ~~ 802.11g ~~ DSATX 220W PSU Rev 1.2 ~~ 7" SP-719 TS LCD ~~ WinXP Pro SP1 nLite Custom ~~ GPS Capability
it's gonna cost me over $400 to build a new system now, since i got my old system second hand. i already had some parts coming in before this happened, which makes me feel even worse. i have a gps mouse arriving in 2 days. i planned to have the project finished by midweek, since i am going on a trip on the weekend and planned to use it for GPS capability. so much for that..
so..what am i doing? i am trying to see what systems mp3car can build for me, and possibly get it overnighted or 2-3 day delivery. so in my haste for getting a quick system built, i am asking to see if anyone can catch any problems i may have missed in my new setup. here is what i'm looking at:
MP3Car custom 3688:
build: customer build
mobo: epia m10k
hdd: 2.5" 60gb 5400rpm
cdrom: none (will pickup from a local user)
memory: low profile 256mb ddr sdram
bluetooth: none
os: none (i have my own copy)
keyboard: none (i still have mine)
monitor: none (i still have mine)
sound: onboard
psu: m1-atx (should i invest in another dsatx?)
wireless: none (at least, none for now)
do i need a slim cdrom adapter? ide adapter? can the m1-atx directly secure into this case? can the integrated video support custom resolutions via powerstrip?
THANKS!
EDIT:
See post #16 for my planned revised setup.

I'll sell you another DSATX for 100 bucks, if you agree to the review. It will have the latest firmware, but maybe not the latest board, which shouldn't matter..

LOL..problem is, i live with my aunt for now. i am in college, and it helps me from digging so deep into my college savings.
Jeff - that's wonderful news to hear. i'll let you know after i go and do some more research on what system suits my needs.
i have calmed down for a good bit now. at this point, i am rethinking my system plans. this means, revising what i have already thought through for my old system, although it shouldn't be much. i can now reinvest (:sigh: ..reinvest) into a more recent system with better components now. much less hacking pieces together from the get-go. i'll probably be combing through the classifieds section to see if there are any systems i can use through there as well.
here are my goals for the system (same as before):
music, movies, gps, wi-fi
for now, i have decided to hold off getting a carpc for at least the week. i need to redo some reasearch

Exported all over - people love watching Americans suing their loved ones
My condolences to your carpc - may it rest in peace(es)! J/k....
Can't think what you must be going through though - it's the rock and hard place situation what with your aunt throwing it away - what was she thinking!
I bought most of mine second hand too, so I know how difficult it will be to get it all together again

I waited ages for the SP13000 (the only part I bought new) 'cos it was friggin' way overpriced - the week after I bit the bullet and bought it brand new, I get ebay notification that it's on multi auction for £115. I paid £150.....
Oh well!
