Slingplayer for streaming TV/Sat signal

Anyone else on here have a Slingplayer device? Basically, it just hooks up to your Cable/Satellite/DVD (really any audio/video) feed at home and you connect to over the internet w/ it's client program and can watch you're cable/satellite feed from anywhere with a decent connection and control that device.

Fixing to start putting in my carputer and wanted to try and embed the Slingplayer into RR so I could stream cable tv from home when I have internet access (through cell phone or when I'm near an access point).

Just wanted to see if anyone else is using this. It really needs a broadband connection so if you use something EVDO it may be a good way to get TV into your car.

You're not going to get very good streaming quality using internet through a mobile phone. Verizon's wireless broadband might be the best as far as bandwidth, but I've never used it, so I don't rightly know.

With my cingular EDGE setup through my laptop it's barely watchable, so it would be mostly for when I'm parked around campus here (which happens a lot) and can get on the wireless network.

But on the Sling forums a lot of people report that using Verizon's (or I guess Sprint's) EVDO service works.

That Slingbox is kind of expensive. Why not just get a cheap TV card like ATI Wonder and use Orb?

SlingPlayer

I am trying to do the same thing. I do not want to use a TV card (too few channels). Since the technology is there with the slingbox and internet, this will become one of the methods of watching TV (Home Media). I watch the slingbox at different locations fine. Try FIOS at home and your upload speed soars (just like your home network).

I have setup my carputer (MII10000) and have tested it on my home network (works fine). You just need a stronger Internet connection riding on the road , so I will be getting the Verizon Broadband package (needs PCMCIA card).
