Linux or Window$$

Hi,

Kinda throwing up whether I use Windows or Linux for my car PC : I was in a friend's car running Debian with Gnome, had MapPoint and Kismet and everything going while he was driving, it seems to be alot more stable and manipulatable than windows, but how does it interact with touchscreens and the like?
Basically, I love Centrafuse, but there doesn't seem to be much free map/GPS software that speaks to you on windows, unless someone can help...
Also, he's written it that Kismet will automatically log the GPS co-ordinates of any APs that it finds...neat

. windows for sheer ease-of-use....but....maybe not. help

Second Vote YAY!.... well linux is good for low power systems but software compatibility still lies with windows.

How was he running MapPoint under Linux? Wine? VMWare? A custom app to access the MapPoint data? Inquiring minds want to know!

I'd say really as a rule of thumb, if you (or someone you know) cannot code anything for linux, stay away from it. It sure would suck to go to that buddy of yours everytime something was wrong with YOUR system.

I'm a windows guy. Why? Linux is awesome and stable and all, but I only know VB.

Some say that's not real programming anyway. And, 99.9% of all devices out there work with windows. Come to think of it, I've never seen anything that says it works with linux only...

Linux is more for a specialized task specialized machine type of application, imo. I run freesco on an old PC in my office for a router, and it's amazing. But I wouldn't know the first thing about sticking it in a car... esp with some of us (me included) using psone screens. I've seen ways to use special timings in linux, but powerstrip is so much easier.

I go with Windows I'm afraid, not that I like MS, just that I can fix things quickly, have grown up and learnt windows and I can program in vb and fully customise my XP to how I like.

Oh, and I help with Freedrive and it will only run on windows, but I see someone is trying to get it to work under a linux/windows build which I hope they manage.

Yes linux requires a little bit more than a simple click, in the other hand when it is right configured, there's no need to come back and click left, right, up, down, under

so psone screen...is something like that ?

or some specialized task like that ?

imagine your poor windows corrupted while using your gps....where am i ?
