Question How to stop PC beep when return from standyby??

When ever my car PC returns from standby it has a long beep, how do I stop this? I tried disabling the 'beep' in device manager but that didn't work...

It comes through the main speakers, i.e my car pc/stereo speakers. Unplugging is not an option.

what operating system, and some hardware specs please? there may be an option or hack to change the beep to a diff. wave file. then you could make it say "welcome" or "please fasten seat belts" or "I'm rick James, *****" just another thought.

goto sounds in your control panel and see if you've got some sound scheme going.

.....how does standby work for you.....doesnt that drain your battery?

i started using standby too and i love it. i have the m2-atx set to hardoff after 2 hours, so if i run to class or into the store the computer wont shut all the way down and the screen looks like its off. then when i start the car up everything is up and running really fast. try it out.

It's a MSI 6390 MATX board. XP SP2

I've had it in standby for over 5 days without use of the car and batt has never gone flat, it uses very minimal drain to keepthe mem in ram.

try this. goto control panel>sounds and audio devices> pull up sounds tab. under program events highlight a sound and press the play button. search thru sounds in program events until you find the sound you don't like. once you find it use the browse button to find a .wav file you like better, select it, hit apply and close control panels. you should be able to change it, unless it is a hardware based beep, then you may be screwed.

It's not there, can't figure out what causes it I'm sure I read a fix on here last year but I can't find it

Go to the mixer, go to the options menu, see if PC Speaker is in the list of checkboxes, if it is then check it and you will have a volume selection for the PC speaker.

Look in the bios. My old Asus board had a setting in the bios to switch between the pc speaker and the soundcard for boot events. Asus called it something like "speech post report" or something like that. Maybe your board has something similar.

and then update the BIOS. Most likely this annoyance is just a BIOS bug that is probably already fixed.
