Laptop CD ROM IDE extension cable

Has anyone heard of or seen an extension type cable for a laptop CD drive?

I know some manufacturers use propriety connectors but the vast majority use little brown male and female connectors.

Do you want to conect the laptop CDROM to standard IDE (as the thread title indicates)?
If so, you need this: http://www.mp3car.com/store/product_...products_id=83 and an IDE cable.

If you want to simply extend the laptop drive, you need one of these: http://www.mp3car.com/store/product_...products_id=92

No it would be a cable that i can plug the CD drive into and plug the other end of the cable into the CD ROM port on the laptop.

I seriously doubt one exists. Get the USB enclosure and put the CD-ROM in that, then use a nice long USB or firewire cable.

Well I don't know where you can find one, but laptop drives use a connector called a JAE 50pin cable I think. You could google it and maybe something will pop up. But in the end, you'll have to convert it to something else to use it with a non-laptop board. Same yourself the trouble and convert to IDE or USB or FireWire to begin with. USB and Firewire can go pretty far distances with data loss.
