My tiny, ghetto case for FV24 [pics]

This is my setup, almost ready to go in the car. I'm still waiting on a few parts and still testing and installing software. I wanted a small modular design, so that the pieces could easily be hidden.

The case doesn't look beautiful, but it isn't bad for having been built in a dorm room with a hammer, drill and sheet metal cutters. And most importantly it's very small... not much bigger than the dvd drive shown in the picture. The cpu fan sucks air in straight from outside the case, and then another fan blows air back out. I also intalled a laptop hard drive in the lid.

The CPU is a celeron 900, and I was a little worried about heat, however it seems to be ok with the two fans. The room temperature is currently about 91F (33 C ?) and the cpu is running at 95 F (35 C). Heat sink is very cool to the touch.

The case will be going under the dash near the passengers feet, or inside the glove compartment. I'm hoping to install the DVD drive in one of the headunit slots. For the power supply, I ordered those 29 dollar dc-dc 57 watt supplies, and I'll have to figure out their installation once they arrive. It's hard to easily conceal stuff in a my outback since there's no trunk, and I can't sacrifice any cargo space.

Are you mounting your power supply seperately?

yeah, powersupply is seperate so that I can conceal it somewhere else more easily, keep the motherboard case smaller, and the main reason... to have less heat build up in the case.

I may even setup the powersupply all the way in the back of the car, and run the power to the front. I want to try and keep the computer up front so that I don't have to extend the wires for the vga, dvd, etc.

You are gonna run that 900 with a dvd off a 57watt?
hrm...i couldn't get a 800 celery fv24 with one 40gig hd to work off of a 70watt powersupply, let me know if you get that to work.

According to Arby, the powersupply should be enough to run the fv24 and the 900 celeron... I bought two supplies, because I was planning on using a seperate one for the drives and fans. I'll see if it works?!?

Run your fans from the straight from the vehicles electrical system. Dont waist valuable regalulated 12 current from the pc power supply. I have a switch on my case that lets me switch from pc supply power to car power on the fans for when i bring the case inside.
