Where to buy remote start & alarm online? (reliable, cheap)

Hey, I've decided to start a project with my '98 Civic, and I think the first place for me to start is adding a remote start/keyless entry/alarm system. This will get me something I've been wanting for a long time, and get me more familiar with my car's innards.

Reading this forum, it seems DEI is the official r/s/alarm company here. That means my list of products boils down to basically the Viper 560XV or Hornet 563T (basically the same, I understand).

Now my problem is, I've found WAY too many online stores selling these things, at wildly varying prices, from $50 to $500. It seems $125 is about the average price.

My question is, what online stores are reliable? What stores have you all used? There's always ebay, but it doesn't seem like there's much on there, not to mention the high possibility of buying fake or crappy products. Thanks for any suggestions!

Hmm, okay, I sent him an email, I'll see what he says. Thanks. Is this how most of you get your stuff? From people on these forums or people that they know?

I did the same thing you're doing. I bought a remote start/keyeless entry to learn the insides of my civic. I got mine from eBay and cost me around $50 shipped. It doesn't have an alarm, but has the whole alarm bypass when starting and alarm activator wires. It really helped me alot. The only thing that made me choose what to get, was the CarLink 100 thing by Audiovox. You can use your cellphone to control your car from anywhere. The thing is, it needs to have a connector for it, and the 686t by Audiovox has that. Also, I can work the damn thing from across campus! That's a university campus btw, and many buildings in the way. No idea how I pulled that off, but I would recommend it to anyone.
Even if you decide to go with a Viper or something, it will help you get aquainted with your car's under-dash.
I had absolutely 0 knowledge of cars prior. Now I know about the car's cabin's electric system! Just my 2cents...

Yeah, I thought about just getting the keyless and r/s, but since I plan to get a computer in there with LCD and all, I figured it made more sense to get an alarm as well. Don't want anyone swiping my rig!

Just to follow up, I got a CrimeStopper RS 900 VII from eBay for $58 after shipping. It has remote start, keyless entry, and alarm. I'll let you all know how the install goes this weekend.
