Windows tint?

I was wondering.. What is the most common windows tint? Personally.. i want it dark but not totally blacked out. We have a law you cant do much of a tint on the front windows.. If you get it done then you can't get an inspection sticker.. What if i wanted to get an inspectionsticker .. so i just roll down my front to windows? Anyone know if that would work? What does everyeon do? find a ghetto place to get it inspected? Also.. OEM install + windows tint = safe? But quick dissconnect is safer right?

Safer if you quick disconnect, easier to steal if you leave it in too!

I have no experience with window tint btw.

People break in for $5 lying on the seat. Don't count on hiding to discourage them.

As for window tint, what kind (brand name) and level of tint are two different things. Going for good brands mean better UV protection, but can get pretty damn expensive. As for having tints that are too dark, it depends on how much cops love to hassle people about that in your area. I don't know how your 'inspection sticker' process works, so no comment on that. Rolling down windows usually do not help since that's a pretty common trick that police know how to look for. On my car, my front tints are actually darker than the legal amount, but not by much more and so far I have not been hassled about it (knock on wood).

yea imo the cop will write a ticket if you are an *** or something.. that or hes ****ed off.. but when a cop stops you.. i always roll down the window b/c thats what they make you do in our area.. you know? that and cops like it better b/c its safer for them.

you gotta think of the color of your car too. A black car is easier to get away with a darker than legal tint versus a white car. Learned that one when i got my first car. A friend had a black car with a really dark tint and no cops bothered him. I had a white car and did the same tint and got stopped quite often for it.

Another thing to look out for is if you have the lojack systemsome window tints can actually block the lojack signal from leaving the car, depending on the placement of the system.

I am planning of getting my windows tinted also when I finish my project.

How do they tint the windows? They just put a layer of dark plastic on the window ( which can be removed later) or do they change the whole window?

Just a thin film, but it's more than just plastic. Tint should also have UV blocking properties. When getting tint, it's worth it to spring for good material. Be careful with metallic tint. Even though it has very good uv properties, it can block your GPS receiver depending on where you place it. The really really good Huper Optik tint is ceramic based. Do a little searching around since tint is not just plastic.

Is it easy to remove after? Or do you have to take it to a shop for that?

How much did you pay for yours? I just want to get an idea on the pricing

Removal is okay, but usually a shop can do it for free or cheap. Removal for the rear window is a pain because they have to be careful not to damage the heater lines.

I paid $160 for mine, but I got a decent deal for a pretty high quality tint. Expect maybe around $120-180 for a good job with good material for 5 windows.

Almost certainly nobody will notice the difference. That includes you.

i had 20% all around on my silver 2 door honda accord...i live in PA and the legal tint percent is 70%. i was just pulled over the other day for my tints, but the cop was a prick. they gave me 10 days to take them off or i woulda got a $90. i figured i might as well just take it off and save myself from future problems with them. it was pretty easy to take them off, i just soaked them with amnonia(windex) and then used a razor blade to cut the top corner. the rest of the tint peeled off surprisingly easily. IMO, if the police in your area have better things to do than harass people wiht tinted windows, go for them. they keep your car cooler in the summer and also improve the look of your car greatly.
