Cats? I wouldn't bother. I had this cat who was just evil. Willful. Did things to **** me off intentionally (would stare at me while doing it, and wouldnt' stop until I started getting up and the run and hide).
I tried a sonic deterent. She broke it while I was sleeping. So I got a dog trainer (zapper) for a small dog. Man, you couldn't hold that thing on "5", I turned it all the way to "10", she just tensed a bit and gave me the stink eye.

Consider a more legal Piezo Siren
First of all hiding everything is your best bet(Fold-away screen, consealing door, tint, stealth trunk mounting). And consider the effect of having car alarm decals discretly on two or so windows and a blinking red LED. Sometimes criminals do not want to put for the effort when the next car is without an alarm (after market anyway). Third, if they make the effort to break the window, sound an ear piercing piezo siren. Hidden deep within the dash, the alarm is triggered no one wants to enter the car with 110db 3khz siren blaring. Infact, my install will feature such a siren inside and out powered off of the second battery as well as a strobe to illuminate the night. As far as retaliation goes, no way to win that one. And with all systems designed by hoomans, there is a chance of back fire. Cats also don't like loud noises and blinking lights..just like the neighbors. The shock idea is cool, but not safe nor practical at this point.
If I had my way, next thief gets to try his luck with my power antenna/tesla coil. Also some radio active goo to making tracking down get-aways easy with my giger counter.

...put the electrodes in the seat...I think I remember some anti-carjack system that was setup with electrodes in the seat.

First off, it's "Case-in-point"... If you're going to attempt to insult my intelligence level, at least get your idioms correct. Secondly, the "shameless"-ness of my post was in response to your absolute and unwavering insistence that it's legal simply because "someone" in law enforcement told you it was. Real "sensible." That and I was bored, so I couldn't resist the alliterative possibilities.

thanks for the responce. based on "some of the sensible" posts here i might have to rethink this system and use the super high pitch sounder instead. i have two appointmnets with civil attorney next week to get some advice.
I'm glad you're rethinking it, whether it was my non-"sensible" post that did it or not. However, if you choose to proceed, I'd recommend retaining a criminal defense attorney in addition to a civil attorney. If it's criminal, then you're automatically liable on the civil side. You also might want to look into an "umbrella" insurance policy to help mitigate the impact when you're sued for wrongful death...

Remeber that scene from I think it was Robocop 2 or 3, where it was a commercial for a car alarm and the crook gets in and then gets crispy fried from the electric shock system, the owner comes back and just dumps the body out of the car and drives off.

SeaLawyer's exactly right. It's something they teach you in your first semester of law school (I'm a lawyer too). There's a famous case where some guy got fed up with hobos breaking into his vacation home and stealing stuff. So he put a shotgun boobytrap on the doors. He didn't want to killl anyone, so he used shot and put it near the floor. Some hobo comes along, gets his knees blown off, but the homeowner ends up being the one really getting screwed.
Law /= fair. The law is designed for an entire society, and invariably it will be unfair in some circumstances (i.e., should i get a ticket for jaywalking when there are no cars?)
I don't see why SeaLawyer was attacked. It's not like he's saying these laws are _good_, he's just giving a heads up so you don't get sued/fined/jailed.
I would recommend using something that has less risk of permanent damage/death. Even though it's one in a million, some criminals have pacemakers/heart conditions. I'd go with something like the really annoying noise, plus (my choice) a smokescreen which makes it impossible to see anything inside the car.
Personally, I think the law should allow deadly booby traps (like hobo proofing your house with a shotgun). But I don't make the laws.

Thanks for the cover wooga, although by admitting to being a lawyer, you're apparently inviting unfounded demonization despite your helpful intentions...
I thought the scene in Robocop was hilarious -- and I WISH the Trunk Monkey was both feasible AND legal... But it ain't. The only way I'd ever use lethal force (and I do legally carry a concealed firearm) on someone attempting to steal my car is if my kids were in it. Then the idiot would for a split second know what 3 .40 caliber Federal Hydrashock slugs can do to a human body...

lol@ tesla coil and robocop comment
I like the link provided earlier, I might just get some stickers printed up that has the autotaser image on them there. It is certainly enough to make someone think twice before trying to break in. You can tell my car has money in it from outside, nevermind when you look in the windows. I am also definitely investigating putting airhorns inside the car as well.

Hi,
Just wondered if you have managed to fit one of these systems as yet and if you are planning on fitting/supplying them.
My car got broken into over the weekend and i am now looking for something a 'little' more than a ringing bell!!

That sucks dude. I've got something in the works, should be done next week. It won't shock them, but I think it'll leave them with some regrets... stay tuned.

As much as I hate to agree with the lawyers, they are dead on right. You might be wondering how I know this so surely? Well, it's obvious, I slept in a Holiday Inn Express last night.
