ok my DVD993 has arrived, with the DVD393xTV's
pretty happy with overall quality, but after some testing it was clear that the DVD9xx units seem to use different tuner circuitry than the others. try as i might i was not able to get it into European/Asia tuning 0.1mhz steps.
mp3playerstore.com have given me the option to return the unit so i will be doing so, probably for a credit against the new 3.6" and 4" units which they say they will have ready to sell mid december. will be a nice xmas present eh
i'll be packaging and shipping the unit back to canada, meanwhile the dvd393xtv is now temporarily in my dash and working well. quite happy with the performance and sound quality, however it is only the first night of its use so i will report any niggling problems back here for anyone who is interested. USB playback is the main feature and this works well, only issue i have is it does not have 'memory' of the playback position on the usb stick after powering off and powering on (with the stick still inserted) i guess this might be asking too much. even so, it reads my 1gb stick very quickly and is up and playing within a few seconds, which is great. have yet to test mp3 cds and mp3 dvds.
meanwhile i cant decide which new 4" style player i want!

DVD990/993 in the UK
Has anyone in the UK used a DVD990/993 and had the TV working correctly, ie with colour and sound?
Also does the 0.2Mhz stepping of the radio section cause problems for UK users?
I am thinking of buying one of these for my daughter but I would like to know if I will get problems once in use.
Thanks in advance

I'm based in the UK, and have the unit installed in my Toyota Yaris. I've plugged a standard indoor TV Aerial into it, and it does occasionally pick up a full colour picture with sound, but generally it's not watchable. The best option is to get a proper car tv aerial, that is powered by the car battery - you can get these from ebay, and they vastly improve the signal. I have no problems with the radio. Let me know if you need any further information

Hi guys. This is my first post on this forum and am saying hi. What brings me here is that I just purchased a 990DVD unit and it won't work at all. I have tried all the tips within this thread and still no luck. I have deciphered the wiring and connected it accordingly and still no luck. Could I have a dud unit? Or is it something obvious I am not seeing?

thanks for the scan LoFreq, I have the manual. I wanted to confirm the wire locations though. I don't believe the manual represents the actual physical locations of the wires in the connector.
I pulled the wires right out of the connector, and need to re-insert them into the correct locations.
Need pic of connector with the wires in it.
Thanks,
Pootna

- check the fuses
- if you have a meter measure for power at the connector to unit
(connect meter ground to ground at connector the black wire, measure yellow wire - should always be 12v. measure red wire this should switch the unit on and off 12v = on, 0v = off.
- tried the reset button???

I fixed the problem, only by stripping the face of the unit and re-soldering EVERY solder joint (there were at least 10 dry joints and some unsoldered joints). This is one very, very poorly built unit; the wire colours on the deck aren't the colours in the manual; where the connector (with speaker and power inputs) meets the main PCB, the labelling is all wrong; the power supply wire to the unit (the one that is supposed to come off the ignition switch) is nowhere near thick enough to handle the high current draw of this unit, I had to change it. Once the problems were sorted, it actually is a pretty capable unit (shame about the build quality; I can't see these things, as they are, costing more than $5 to build).

My experience with this piece of ****, is it won't be able to stand heat. the disc player will be the 1st to go. in lieu of the disc player u still can use the memory stick/thumb drive function. if your unit sucks don't bother to RMA the thing, just build a car pc.

DVD-993 Installed
Hi
I have recently bought and installed one of the DVD-993 DVD units and it actually worked first time. It did help reading this thread first to confirm the terminations etc.
It does stick out a bit from the fasia, installed in my daughters Peugeot 206.
Will need to take a chisel to the dashboard!!!
Bought it from eBay, as long as it continues to work I will be happy
At the moment it seems to do what it says it does, not bad !!!
I even connected an aerial and can receive UK TV channels in colour and with sound. Thanks to David_M for the reply.
So Far So Good.

Innovatek 990
I recently Just purchased an Innovatek 990 and am having some problems. The system won't turn on, and i have already checked all of the fuses. The only two wires that i do not have connected are the brake wire and the backsight wire. I dont think this would have anything to do with the system turning on. Could anyone help me out?

Does the little red security light behind the face flash - or is that not even working? If it isn't, it would indicate that it totally isn't getting any power what-so-ever, and you need to double check your power wiring.

ndjwh00 - glad I could help. I certainly know what you mean about putting a chisel to the dash. You can read the nightmare install I had, on the Toyota Forum. Anyone who requires that, go to http://toyotaownersclub.com/forums/i...howtopic=58021
