Cheers for that advice. I will connect it to ground and give it a try. It does make sense really.

what the backsight wire could be is to dim the unit when the car's lights are on so it can be seen better at night without blinding you. loads of headunits have this and most cars haev a wire behind the radio for this (my m-reg fiesta has one).

It could be a dimmer. What color is the wire?
Chances are if you plug it into 12v, it'll automatically switch to AV2 or something. Of course there's probably a menu setting to turn that functionality on.

dvd-990 hmmm
I have also recently bought an innovotek dvd-990 with some strange things going on.
1. It wont play my english or american DVD's, it just comes up with 'Wrong Region' when I put a dvd in. Any news for a multi-region code? Not impressed that I cant play my region dvds on my dvd player, kind of defeats the purpose
2. Have tried connecting the 12v brake wire to ground, but still when i turn the headlights on the mpeg4 picture turns off. Connected the wire (which is a nice pink color by the way) to the 12v supply, it then comes up with BCAR on the screen. Wered eh!
Any help would be appreciated

I have the same unit as well, the DVD-990, so I am assuming from this forum, that the Brake 12V is grounded, and the Backsight 12V is left disconnected being that I dont have a reverse camera. Is that right?

The 'Backsight' wire should probably only get hooked up if you have a reverse camera.
HI all I'm new here anyway's I'am considering the innovatek dvd990 and just wondering how well does it work are you guy's happy with it. Also do all of those buttons light up blue or white the buttons such as EQ,LOU,END,REW,& FWD ETC. If not all of them which buttons do light up. And did any of you get the dvd to play while the car is in drive, also did any of you get your local TV stations thru it's tunner. THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY'S.

Yeah I got my dvd-990 hooked up, the rotary button and all the other buttons such as 1-6, eq, loud, etc light up a blue colour just like alpine decks. Also, my DVD's play no problem while Im in drive. The only problem I have with this unit is it has no TIMER, which really really sucks.

Thanks a lot for your reply...how wide is the viewing area of the screen & how tall is the viewing area of the screen. I know it says 3.5"wide but as i talk to Vadim at mp3playerstore. com he said it was actually 4" wide and 2.7" tall??? . Are you happy with it, like the wattage of power & sound & the TV tunner. Thanks again

Yeah it is actually about that big, I had to fabricate my dash so the face would fit in, takes a bit to have the dvd-990 sitting in your dash nicely, if you just mount it in, it will stick out of your dash by like 2 cm, cuz the front is bigger than a DIN size. The wattage and sound is good as well, it has a LOUD option just like my old Alpine deck which had a MX button. As for TV tunner, I don't know any of that since I don't have that installed...... yet

I am looking at one of these for the RDS capabilities mainly. The MP3 and DVD functions don't hurt.. I have an old Denon DCT-950R in one of my cars and I have gotten use to the RDS. I just can't find any units that have all the functions I want without spending a fortune for my second car.
Can anyone confirm what functions are supported with RDS? I like the Radio Text part, this is where a station can broadcast the play list and other info.
Overall, How would you rate the INNOVATEK products?

First impression with DVD-990
Just received the package yesterday and read through the crapy manual. Here is my first impression:
1. The packaging is kind of cheap looking.
2. The Unit itself looks average. Maybe it will look nicer when lit up.
3. The manual is very simple and the wiring diagram and some info are not accurate.
4. There are actually 1 Video Out, 4 Audio Out (one for each channel), 1 Video In for Backsight (backup video camera), 1 Video In and 2 Audio In, 1 Radio Antenna In, and 2 TV antenna In (don't know why).
5. Backsight (12V) is to power the backup camera (I think). For Brake (12V), I guess we don't need to hook it up at all.
6. In manual, there is no mention of TV tuner, RDS-EON, Video In, backup camera, and system clock.
7. There is Preset EQ (Pop/Rock/Classic), but you cannot customize it. Loudness button is to boost bass, but again no customization.
8. In the manual, it says it can play DVD, but no mention of DVD-R or DVD+R.
I am awaiting my Installation kit to come in this weekend, and will update my review.
