I have the same screen. It has the following connections: +12V, Ground, Ignition, and another Ground. I assume the second ground is supposed to go to the ground on the brake. I simply have the two ground wires connected to each other with no problems.
Legally, you cannot view full motion view from a screen that is in the view of the driver. If the screen is in the passenger visor then that one would be okay. The indash screen has the e-brake safety to make it so you can only view the view when the e-brake is applies (as other have said). If you were to take you car to a shop to get the screen installed, they would have to wire it up to the e-brake or they could get it lots of trouble.
You take the risk of getting a ticket if you're caught watching a video while driving. It shouldn't be a problem by day but at night it would be more noticeable.

backsight... i mean back up camera
If you wire the back sight wire to a camera's 12 volt positive cable and then connect the both of them to the rear back up lights of the vehicle, when you put the vehicle in reverse the camera will power on and the video screen will display the image as long as the cameras video input is connected to the receiver....

I haven't used Backup Camera yet...just a question: how does the Head Unit know when you put the vehicle in reverse?

it doesnt know you put the car in reverse per se, it simply gets a +12 volt signal from the backup lights (which only come on when you put the car in reverse). Thats my own way of hooking it up. The other way is to spice into the electronic transmission wiring.... but i think we can just go with the first suggestion.... If you wire the power to the camera the same way, the only time the camera will come on is in reverse also. It really doesnt matter because thats the only time the dvd990 will display it anyways.

I see...the Backsight (+12v) wire to the Unit will get the 12v signal from Backup camera to trigger the screen display. Thanks for the information!

Now my question is how well does this integrate with your CarPC? I have a similar unit (actually I have just a piece of junk that I wanted to play with) its a Boss DVD-5000. I connected one of my video out lines to my WinTV composite in and created scripts and buttons on the CarPC so I can also watch whatever is playing on the external DVD through the TV function of the PC. The primary video out and audio out RCAs feed headrest screens. I've seen some nice dual zone models, too, just haven't had a chance to play with them yet. For some reason my cheapy DVD headunit has some noise bleeding into the video but it does support Dolby surround and 5.1 so my kids prefer playing videos in it rather than the CarPC.

2. The Unit itself looks average. Maybe it will look nicer when lit up.
3. The manual is very simple and the wiring diagram and some info are not accurate.
4. There are actually 1 Video Out, 4 Audio Out (one for each channel), 1 Video In for Backsight (backup video camera), 1 Video In and 2 Audio In, 1 Radio Antenna In, and 2 TV antenna In (don't know why).
5. Backsight (12V) is to power the backup camera (I think). For Brake (12V), I guess we don't need to hook it up at all.
6. In manual, there is no mention of TV tuner, RDS-EON, Video In, backup camera, and system clock.
7. There is Preset EQ (Pop/Rock/Classic), but you cannot customize it. Loudness button is to boost bass, but again no customization.
8. In the manual, it says it can play DVD, but no mention of DVD-R or DVD+R.
I am awaiting my Installation kit to come in this weekend, and will update my review.
So there is no dedicated subwoofer rca outputs? Just the 2 preouts for front/rear channels?

DARN! All the listings on ebay say there is. Thanks for clarifying that. That is just something I must have. I went on Innovatek's website and they have several other models that are all in on like the 990. However I can't find any place that sells them. And if I do its only the 990. This is still a good deck IMO if I wasn't so anal about the dedicated sub preout.

I recently bought a DVD-990 and would like to add a flip down monitor in the rear, can any of you tell me if I have to buy a particular screen for it to work with the DVD-990? Also Crawfish, thanks for the pictures and info.

We are in the same boat!
I just ordered a 9" roof mount monitor:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...lance&n=172282
I choose 16:9 ratio because most DVDs are in that format. And having a 16:9 screen will save you some space to be blocked in the rear view mirror.
The only problem I see is that the DVD-990's own screen is 4:3 ratio but it can be configure to show 16:9. The picture will be distorted though.

I will scan the manual next week. But I have to say the manual was terribly written.
