Totally. Streetdeck is as good a solution as the next, and is relatively straightforward. Some folks will see it as commercialisation and trivialisation of the "hobby". I think it is the natural progression.
I just hope that it can deliver on it's promises now that it is a commercial product. It is one thing to put together your own system and have a system with teething troubles. It is quite another to buy a purpose-built-for-the job system and have issues. People expect more from that kind of thing.

I dislike the commercially available all in one solutions. However, I can't seem to pinpoint an exact reason, it's more of a feeling. I've noticed that this seems to be the case with a lot of us who have had PCs in our cars for some time now.
Why is this? Why is it that we feel this way do you think?

Hmmm...perhaps because it's now too easy for someone to obtain what one previously had to have talent and invest hard work to build.

Perhaps because the hobby that you've invested so much time and effort in is now being taken over by someone using the expertise and techniques developed to make a nice wad of cash? In effect your time and effort is being used to fuel someone elses income. The pioneers of a hobby are rarely the ones that end up profiting.

Rob is right. Unfortunately, that is how capitilism works.

see, I don't mind someone else making a buck on it, if I had the means I would have invested in it a LONG time ago.
I guess it's attitude, the ungratefulness, the idea that it's owed....bah - I sound like an old fart...lol

Some will say it cheapens our early efforts. I think it shows what out labors can lead to.
The folks that wish to feel elite will still do a custom solution.
The more of us with CPU based music (plus video, GPS and other PC functions) the wider the potential market for new gear.
I will not be using a comercial solution but I like seeing them.

Ive used both Commercial and Freeware and ill have to say that StreetDeck does have some cool tricks up its sleeve, but then again, RoadRunner is always innovating as well. Its a toss up really, but for now StreetDeck is on my carputer.
