Hey USF... Have you looked behind the plastic behind the seats? There seems to be a lot more room behind the passenger's seat than the driver's. I am not sure if I'm going to be able to put my amps and computer behind the passenger's seat. Still plotting things out, though before I do anything.
Planning planning planning.
The worst part about not having my computer in my new car is not having Sirius and having to make due with the free three months of XM.

Carputer In Saturn Sky?
Ok, so I've about written off getting a carputer in this car. But what do you all think? Any ideas how a carputer might be placed in here, and no I don't want to replace the headunit with an AIO. Here are some pic's of the interior:

What is that dark sqaure, basically sitting on the top of the sash, just above the center where the radio and climate controls are.
Also, what do you want the carputer to do. If all you want is music, you can get away with just an character LCD, or better yet, an IPOD.
If you want a full LCD screen, well, then you may have to compromise and remove something to gain something.
ALso, some better close up pics of the center dash will help.
By the way, nice car.
Michael

Thanks
I'd want to do a full screen LCD (already have a Xenarc 7"). The "square" above the climate controls is just there for looks -- it "creates" the tunnel for the air vent (hope that makes sense).
I'd eventually want to do a full blown pc -- GPS, Phone Integration, Music, DVD, etc...
I'll see if I can get better pic's -- i've lost my USB cable for my camera so I'll have to do some digging.

i sat in a pontiac solstice (same car basically) and wondered the same thing
besides HAVING to spend 600 or so on the highbright screen from the mp3car store there isnt alot of room unless your willing to hack the center console apart
maybe a screen mounted to the passengers headrest and a shuttle express or powermate in the center would work but im not sure

You should check out BugByte's install. It has been a while since I last checked it out, but IIRC, it was a pop-up monitor on a VW Bug that was in a similar location as the black panel on your Sky (above the vents). He built a box to channel the air and mounted the monitor on a motorized housing.

I realize that this is an old thread that I'm resurrecting, but I just got a new Sky Redline a few days ago. I'm going to transfer my car Computer over to it soon. There is NO room in this sucker. I'm having a custom fiberglass sub created to go where the Monsoon factory one goes if you buy that option.
I'll post some pictures when I get my car back. It's getting a very good alarm system in it right now.
I believe that by summer I'll be screaming for a transreflective option for my MDT-X7000. We'll see.

Let me know how this works out for you. Have you thought about moving the subwoofer from the passengers side to the drivers side?

Well, I'm willing to lose an inch or two from the passenger's side, but I can't lose anything from the driver's side or I wouldn't be able to drive.

USF, while I haven't specifically seen an install in a Sky, I would suggest browsing over to the "Show Off Your Project" subforum and look at the pics of as many of the installs in there that you have the patience and time to look at. While I didn't see any Sky's in there, there are certainly a TON of different types of installs that could at least give you some different ideas for different configurations.
