I just have a problem when people disregard others safety all int he name of 'looking cool'
for all you know, I could be on my bike beside you and you wouldn't see me when you make a sudden turn and I'm right beside you.
I have a serious problem with that.

No one here condones doing anything that disregards safety.
I have (had) 5% tint all around on my Civic.
Its totally fine during the day, and at night its never a problem unless Im
backing up. But because of it Im more cautious when driving at night, and
extra-cautious when backing up when there is little or no light.
So unless its dark and you're driving with your lights off,
you have nothing to worry about.

Yeah aslong as your lights are on at night I have NO problem seeing you next to me or coming up behind me. Even if your lights are off, 99.9% of the time I'll still see you because I look before I turn into the lane.

i know what you mean, i ride my bike almost every day during the summer and have been run off the road on a few occasions by people who are just to lazy to look next to them. so if i pass someone it's usually with some speed. back to the tint thou, i dont see how it impares vision any worse than a pair of sunglasses.

Thats the main reason that I didnt get a bike, esp where I live.
I actually work for a motorcycle dealership and its insane how little attention people pay to motorcyclists.
A guy that worked here was actually run off the road RIGHT IN FRONT of the dealership.
Some lady 'didnt see him' and just merged into his lane and he hit the curb and went over the handle bars
and skidded almost to the front door.
Back on topic for a sec:
Im getting my windows tinted tomorrow (probably 10% all around and 35% windshield).
I've been noting my car temp after sitting in the sun the entire day from the beginning of this week.
I'll write down the temps for the next few days and post the results for all to see.

[ot]The thing is, it's rarely ever an accident that you can't avoid on a motorcycle. If someone cuts you off, it's because you weren't posistioned where you should have been in the lane. When I first started riding I had the same attitude. Then i started to pay attention to my lane position, and now, I rarely ever have someone cut me off or cut into my lane.
Difference is, on a bike, you can't be lacksidasical about it, while in a car, you can get away with it. Most people can't handle that.[/ot]

Still, you can be a super-careful driver and defensive as hell. In the end, you're still at the mercy of the drivers around you.
Example: Driving down a one-lane highway, some lady just pulls out right in front of you from a side-road that you didnt see because of some trees.
You're going 55mpg, she's going 5. Do you slam into her or swerve into the ditch? Either way, its not going to be pleasant.
Im not arguing with you on this, Im just saying that you are at *much* more risk on a bike then in a car because of the people around you.

I agree that you are at more of a risk, but it's not all like people make it out to be. many times, the accidents could be avoided completely if people treated their bikes like bikes and not like cars.

although i've seen people treat a cruiser like a dirtbike and try to avoid accidents by riding thru flat grass.....also a bad outcome.
but ya, just dont ride next to a car in two lane traffic...ever. either pass them or dont. also when im on my bike i just assume no-one sees me, or know im there or are paying attn. that way i am ready when they do something stupid.

I agree with you moto 123. When I am on a street bike, I also assume that I am invisible and specially in intersections. I also don't drive next to a car.
for tint or no tint, My friend has a van with no windows and he uses the sun reflector in windshield when parked and still the van gets 150F+ on a sunny day here in northern California.

tinting the windshield not that it is illegal and doesn't help cool down the car at all.
Get one of those reflective sunshader (one that fold). It really help cool down the interior. Seriously, it help cool down about 10-15F.
This is the one I use.

Yeah, obviously that will help a lot more then mere tint.
Does anyone know it there is a motorized version of that?
Something like blinds that would roll down from the roof of the car along some tracks. Now that would be awesome.

that would be pretty cool, especially if you could push a button and have it slide or unfold down every window in the car.....except it would look like a space vehicle from the 60's. but if it works, who cares!
another option...move up north, where the heat of the sun feels GOOD!!!
